What a shame this beautiful hotel sees fit to rip you off at check out. I had reserved a room for US$120 (Sunday night special in low season), plus tax. I reconfirmed the rate when I checked in. Unfortunately at check out, they had grossly inflated the exchange rate so that they were actually charging me over US$158 based on that's days official bank rate of 13.22 pesos to the dollar. They had inflated the rate to 14.85 pesos to the dollar, adding almost 25% to the rate they had previously confirmed. It's a shame their management stoops to trying to rip off foreigners like this. If I had reserved in pesos the exchange rate of 13.22 pesos to the dollar would not have been an issue, only for foreigners who reserve in dollars are ripped off badly.
I did refuse to pay the inflated exchange rate and fortunately had US$120 with me in cash, with which I paid the $120 confirmed rate. The embarrased ladies behind the front desk apoligized for the dishonesty and said they get complaints about it all the time. The hotel is beautiful and unique, and the staff was friendly, cordial, and very helpful. What a shame they try to rip off guests like this.
Room Tip: If you reserved a rate in dollars make sure you have cash to pay the bill at check out or you'll...
