A lovely holiday house and location for an autumn break exploring italian cities.Silvia was a wonderful; host, and a highlight of the week was tasting the first of the season's olive oil. We didn't want to hire a car, but could easily get in and out of Pisa using regular local buses. From there an excellent train service to Florence that allows a day trip, or a 40 min walk along a riverside track gets you to another small station on the line to Lucca - again allowing a day trip top this lovely old walled city. Public transport was cheap - easiest to buy a supply of tickets form the main stations in Pisa - but make sure you validate them when you get on the bus or train.
Only word of warning - Italian roads have no pavement and the Italian driving etiquette is incomprehensible - so even walking to the bus stop would be much more chellenging with small children (though to be honest I'd rather have done that than been driving on those roads!!).
