“A very pleasant stay in an idyllic setting”

Just returned from a fantastic weekend in Hope Cove, and we were sad to leave. The room was clean and cosy with a spotless bathroom (my only complaint was the slightly low water pressure in the shower), and a gorgeous sea view out over the bay. Lovely log fire in the bar downstairs; the food was delicious and the wines very reasonably priced. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended, for the price I think this offers real value for money in a stunning location.

“Excellent value, lovely spot”

I stayed here for two nights in January 2012 whilst travelling on business. Hope Cove is a long way from anywhere, so after a long drive I was pleased that when I arrived at 14.00 my room was ready.

The room was clean, bathroom very clean, flat screen tv, tea & coffee stuff. Wifi worked OK (was able to have a couple of Skype video calls). Bed only 60% comfortable for me but you can't please everyone. Nice sleep I thought but don't come here if you don't like the sound of waves crashing! The pub is right on the sea front.

Staff were helpful and not intrusive. Breakfast was perfectly adequate. I ordered the full English and I would say that either the sausages were deep fried or they had been cooked the day before. Whatever it was meant they were wrinkled in appearance but it appeared very quickly. I just want to warn people that the breakfast may not look perfect but I thought it was really delicious. Toast & coffee are self service along with cereal etc. Coffee could be a lot better but reflected the cost of B&B. Room was made up while I was at breakfast which was nice.

I ate in the pub both nights, the food was fine but it did taste very 'foodservice solution'. Fresh fish was advertised so maybe I made the wrong choice. Anyway evening meals were not brilliant value for money but the wine was reasonably priced.

At £50 per night for a double room for single occupancy I thought it was great value and would recommend it. The place seems geared up for full occupancy and a full restaurant during school holidays but on Friday night there still seems to be a cadre of local regulars. I'd love to visit in summer.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

I booked this accommodation last minute as I always do! it was full of character. Very welcoming. Room was comfortable with a lovely view over the beach. Food was fabulous - bar has a big fire and full of local characters and their dogs ! Really nice breakfast. Relaxed stay, no pressure. Will definitely stay again !

“Grim...”

Perhaps the rain and wind had something to do with it.. Certainly a great location opposite the beach, with wonderful walks on the doorstep; but the experience pretty dire. The bar was dreary, old manky tables were grubby and it all looked unloved. No one had a smile on their face. The food was dire too with the Pork, Leek and Potato Bake "Special" over microwaved, dry and frankly horrid as was the excessively hot, unpallatble mushroom "soup". The room was OK, dreadfuil duvet and pillows but a reasonable bathroom with good shower. Couldn`t wait to get away in the morning with the thought of breakfast there just too much to handle. This could be a teriffic place with some care and attention - sadly it isn`t and its all pretty depressing.

“Excellent Short Break !”

Just returned from a three night break at this great hotel. We have been coming to Hope Cove for years but have only recent started to stay here. Got a bargain 3 nights for the price of two. Excellent accomodation. This is our second stay at this hotel which is in a fab location in a lovely small cove. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is great. Havent really got any gripes about this place and we will definately stay here again. Its ideally placed for coastal path walking and is popular with divers in the summer months. Can highly recommend this hotel.
