I stayed at the property a year ago when it was the Playa del Sol and was in the process of being converted to the Bel Aire. What a difference a year makes. First, my hats off to Victor, Charly, and Alejandra for always being so courteous and helpful at the front desk. The entire staff was very friendly. My main complaints last year were the hard beds and the no hot tubs. The beds are greatly improved with padding. The hot tubs were still not working when we arrived, but had been fixed by the time we left. It was nice to see the restaurant and pool bar up and running this year. We ate at the pool twice for lunch. I had ceviche. It was very good. The Bel Aire has also upgraded the beach facilities with new chairs and other lounging furniture. The beach area appeared to be raked and refreshed nightly. Both were an improvement over last year. The rooms are still well appointed and have been repainted and freshened up a bit to reflect what appears to be the Bel Aire "look". We stayed in a one bedroom suite. What was a seating area in the main room last year was replaced by a bed. So, sitting space was reduced. It seemed a little odd. The upside is that we were able to sleep next to the large sliding doors to hear the ocean all night. From our experience, the other bedroom can be a little loud with car noise. Personally, we prefer the Bel Aire because it is a small property and tends to skew a little older in terms of crowd. It is quite and peaceful. The staff was busy on all sorts of work while we were there. It appears it will only get better. My only real complaint is that the prices charged to access the wireless are steep and my access in the room was fine for email, but the download speeds were too slow for much else. We had better download and upload speeds nearer the pool. However, the download speeds there were only about 1.5mbps and the upload speeds were about .500mbps. I pay less for a month of internet at my house than I did for a week at the Bel Aire. Oh, and i miss the Japanese gardens that were fresh raked every day last year. It wasn't much, but I liked the way they looked and the attention to detail. Keep up the good work. We will be back next year. First time visitors, the hotel is marked on the side of the road. You exit on the east side of the freeway and cross under to the hotel. Just look for the sign about a half mile after you pass the Mega. It is easier to spot than the hotel.
