My wife and I reviewed many hotels online prior to making a reservation at this Hilton because we were looking for a place to take a vacation (to us, a vacation is when we can re-connect with each other-a trip is when we bring the kids along). This hotel had the fewest complaints of any other Cabo location so we reserved and spent 3 days at this hotel at the end of January. I can effectively sum up our visit in one word...WOW!
While it is a typical, well-maintained Hilton property, there are many things that set this hotel apart from most others you could visit. From the frozen pomegranate margaritas we were handed upon arrival (yes, we hadn't even taken 20 steps out of the cab and had a drink in our hands) to the complimentary traps, books and afternoon popsicles we were offered poolside, this hotel definitely offers some extra touches that made our trip memorable (our thanks to Jorge at the pool for taking such good care of us!). The pools and beaches were also maintained daily (something we've never experienced in the caribbean) and the views were stunning, to say the least.
Beyond the beach and pools, the hotel has many other offerings to keep you occupied during your stay. The spa is wonderful, there are numerous golf courses in the area, and the concierge can help arrange an excursion for whale watching, four wheeling, ecotouring, to name just a few. Regadless, you won't experience boredom at this resort, unless you choose to do so.
The only real negatives the resort has are the cost of food and drink and the distance from Cabo San Lucas. We sampled all of the restaurants and cafes that were on the premises and the food and drink options were excellent. But they were pricey and on occasion you will find that your drinks are somewhat watered-down. However, the servers and bar tenders weren't offended when I made them aware of this and constantly went out of their way to accommodate your wishes. Just remember that the service you receive will reflect the attitude you present. My wife and I always like interacting with the staff wherever we go and because we get to know them a little, there is always a connection that develops between us. As a result we get fantastic service from them.
The resort is located between Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez, which is another negative, but it is only a 25 minute cab ride into town if you want to go to town. Be aware that a cab far can range from $35-85 dollars one way so be sure to negotiate a fare with the driver before you get in the cab. And while this distance is a negative for going into Cabo, it is also a positive in that when you land you are only a quick 20 minute cab ride to the resort after clearing customs. Because of the high cost of cabs my recommendation would be to rent a car if you are planning to stay more than 3 days. This will more than make up for the cab fees you would experience on a longer trip and it's worth it to have the freedom to come and go as you please.
In the end it was all the little things that really made our visit to the Hilton Los Cabos so special. We've been to resorts all over the caribbean and this was by far the best resort I've ever stayed at. Not much beats a quiet afternoon by the pool, watching whales breach offshore, while sipping on a cold cocktail with your significant other. Hands down one of the most relaxing trips we've ever had.
It may have been our first visit, but it certainly won't be our last!
Room Tip: 1)All the rooms face the ocean in some way, so you really can't get a bad one. The best way to...
