We've gone to Los Cabos for almost ten years now, and this was our most relaxing vacation ever. We tried, but could not find a single thing wrong with our stay. We tried to figure out why, and we think it was largely because of the staff. From the time we checked in, to laying around the pool, to dinner and evening entertainment, the staff at Dreams couldn't have been nicer nor more helpful. We never were in need of anything.
Dreams is not a large piece of property, but very efficiently laid out and everything you'd expect in a top resort. We preferred the quiet and peacefulness of the Tranquility (adults only) pool, but most people enjoyed the main (infinity) pool with the hot tub, waterslide and other activities (especially those with children). The service at the pools was as good as everywhere else. I saw some not so favorable reviews about the food and drink, but I was not disappointed at all.
The food? We ate at all five restaurants and were not disappointed once. The service was great. I really enjoyed the surf & turf (scallops & filet) at the Oceana, a great meal at the Asian restaurant, and a great shrimp fettucini at Portofino. But I really enjoyed breakfast every morning - omelets to order, and a great selection of fresh fruit at the buffet. What I really liked was the moderate sized portions - not small, but never felt stuffed after a meal. Well prepared, always served hot, and great presentation. And the wait staff couldn't have been nicer.
We went to the fitness center every morning, then had a nice leisurely breakfast, Did yoga on the beach and took a couple nice long beach walks where we often saw whales, sometimes no more than 100 yards offshore and watched the pelicans dive for their fish.
There is some sort of entertainment every night. We enjoyed karaoke night, the beach party, the Mexican show on the beach, and saw the Michael Jackson show on Wednesday night (which was better than I expected). There is a movie outside every night for entertaining the kids. And we really enjoyed meeting other people around the fire pit each evening.
Some reviewers cite that Dreams is too far out of town (about a 20 minute drive). Yes, Cabo San Lucas is the heart of Cabo with Medano Beach, the spectacular views of Los Archos, all the water activities and hot spots like the Mango Deck and El Squid Roe, but there is a complimentary shuttle that runs four times a day to the marina. We went into town two different days and did some shopping, had dinner at the Office and stopped by the Happy Ending cantina (as we always do in Cabo).
The only thing we found lacking was we didn't have a coffee pot in our room (I believe it was an oversight), but I brought packets of Via from Starbucks, and the little Coco coffee shop was better than anything we could have made in the room. One of the highlights of my morning was stopping there for a latte.
There are higher end resorts in Cabo, but you won't find a better one than Dreams. Away from the buzz and excitement of Medano Beach and Cabo San Lucas, but we actually preferred the quiet, peaceful, relaxing vacation up the copast. Highly recommended, and we WILL be back again.
