The good: it was inexpensive, centrally located with just a short walk (7min) to the Marina and all the attractions. The neighborhood surrounding The hotel are full of great shops and eateries. The staff was great and spoke English. The pool and restaurant area are clean and pretty, there is a business area with computers that are fairly fast.
The bad: the beds are hard as a ROCK, I like a firm bed but this is Flintstone hard. The street noise is loud so get a room at the back, the WiFi is super spotty and breakfast buffet is a little strange, for $8.00 I will walk across the street for a made to order breakfast.
The Ugly: the rooms are small and dated, a little dingy as well. The bathroom is small and a little questionable as to whether you should shower barefoot, the rooms being so small you won't be spending much time in there, that's where the patio comes in handy. If you take a back room on the first floor be ready to see a lot of women working back there doing laundry it didn't bother me a bit at least I know the comforters are washed on a regular basis.
I did have fun on my stay in Cabo but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying longer than a night or 2.
We stayed for 2 weeks and were very comfortable. We met others who were staying there for a few months and they were happy too. It's not overrun with tourists and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
The good things about this hotel are: location, staff, cleanliness and price if you are looking for a very inexpensive place to stay. The staff is extremely pleasant and willing to help and the rooms were always clean albeit quite small and very basic.. The location is so close to many good restaurants, bus transportation and a short walk to the beach. If you stay here be sure to ask for a room on the quiet side away from the street as it is on a major road. As well, request a room with a newer air conditioner and flat screen TV if you are wanting to watch for any period. Wifi in room very poor..The pool area is usually pretty quiet and quite nice...there were a few days when there were some very loud and drunk people around the pool during the day as well as coming home in the middle of the nite making a lot of noise in the courtyard and in their rooms... As others have noted, you're not paying for a great hotel so don't have those expectations going into it...if you're a 5 star traveller you don't want to book here, if u want a basic place that is clean with pleasant staff close to everything and very inexpensive, it works!
I chose this hotel through the internet because I thought it looked nice enough and fit my budget. This hotel does not pretend to be luxurious or fancy. It is basic. It is an older hotel in the center of a busy area of town, close to shops, restaurants and the Cabo experience. The rooms are clean and safe and the pool was clean and quiet. It suited my needs since we went out every day to the beach or activities. Full disclosure: my husband was not pleased because it didn't have a whirlpool. The breakfasts were ordinary but filling Mexican choices that consisted of chilequiles, rolls, cereal and milk, two kinds of eggs, rice, beans, and sometimes quesadillas, whole and cut up fruits. The staff is very friendly and helpful. All in all, it was what I expected and I was satisfied.
Staying at the Estancia Real is like spending the night on the side a major freeway in a refrigerator box with a pillow made of rolled up newspapers. Cigarette smoke wafts in from the courtyard side through the huge gaps in the door facings, and the air conditioning unit, which works sometimes, sucks in all the exhaust from the major traffic jams that pack the street side. Even someone that was passed out drunk (I'm assuming these are the primary patrons of this establishment) would wake up from the volume of the busses, trucks, and motorcycles that rumble by and shake the entire room. A baby next door cried all night, so the walls must be paper thin all the way around. Cleanliness was not bad overall, but the bedspread from the 90s looked like it hadn't been cleaned since then, and I would not shower barefoot. I felt lucky that there were no bedbugs.
Location is "close" to the beach and bars, but crossing the streets outside, which are like a major freeway, is like playing Russian roulette. So dangerous.
The hotel staff also recommended a restaurant around the corner that was a huge ripoff. Tres Gallos or something. I ordered 2 gorditas expecting normal gorditas, and they brought out 2 miniature-sized gorditas that were about 1/4 of an actual gordita, and charged me $11.
The worst part is that I booked via Priceline to get a 3 star hotel. This place claims to be a 3 star hotel, when I'm pretty sure it would be 1.5 stars in the U.S. I was definitely overcharged on Priceline for this dump. The only way this place could be a 3 star hotel would be if in Mexico, 2.5 stars means a crack den. I would never use Priceline again to book anything in Mexico. The regular price for rooms at Estancia Real is $50.
Also, no elevator. Pack light or work on those squats.
No hair dryer.
As long as you're expecting hostel-level quality and service, you won't be disappointed.
