“Avoid at all costs, not worth saving a couple extra dollars here!”

Terrible place! I decided to stay here because it was cheap and most importantly, the reviews said it was clean. I had originally booked a standard room with two double beds, there were 3 of us. We were put in a room with two twin beds and a 'sofa bed' that looked like it had been left outside through quite a few rainstorms. When I went back to tell him that the beds weren't big enough he said that we had actually been given an upgrade because there were 3 of us, that our room was a junior suite. I asked him if he had anything else so he showed me a duplex suite, 2 bedrooms upstairs, bathroom in each bedroom and one downstairs, full kitchen complete with roaches and mice (which I was not aware of yet). He said it would be another $80/night for the room and I started telling him how could he expect to have 3 people sleep on two double beds and I ended up paying an additional $45/night. The condition of the room was not much better it just had more space. The sheets looked like they had not been changed from the previous guests, they had hair and were dirty, the bathrooms were in terrible shape, rust on everything and again, more hair. We spend about an hour cleaning it ourselves. Our room was complete with roaches and mice. I tried to get a picture of the little mice, that we came to call 'Alvin' (I know, its not original) but he got camera shy and went back into the stove. The hotel was walking distance to the marina but I would much rather have spent 3 or 4x the amount I did for a better hotel that was either on the marina or on the beach. The neighborhood isn't exactly the best to be wandering around at night. I just got back from this nightmare trip and will upload some pictures of the bathrooms which were conveniently left off expedia.

  • Liked — Checking out, knowing I would not be there another night!
  • Disliked — The mice that kept waking me up in the middle of the night.

“We Were Robbed Here!!!!”

WE WERE ROBBED BLIND AT THIS HOTEL. NO JOKE- you are taking a huge risk by staying here.
If you want to know the honest truth about this hotel please read on:

I just returned from Cabo today after a five day trip for spring break, and I could not get on this website fast enough to write a review to warn other people about the dangers of this place. Here's the story: My boyfriend and I are both college students who wanted a cheap hotel to stay while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas. I have been to Cabo six times now and I have never had a problem with the city or the people there. I found the Hotel Villas del Pescador online and it was definitely within our price range...we had read all of the reviews on the hotel, and it sounded okay for a young couple not planning on spending too much time in the hotel. So, we booked it, and upon arriving, it was better than our expectations. The pool was decent and, although it looked extremely run down from the outside, the room was basic and clean (for the most part- a cheap hotel in Mexico is never THAT clean). So, we unpacked our clothes and put all of them on the shelves provided. We decided to go to dinner, where we were no longer than an hour, and when we returned to our hotel room, EVERYTHING WAS GONE. Literally- all of our clothes were missing off of the shelves and our suitcases were missing. A small baf of jewelry and a small makeup bag of mine were also gone. However, the consederate thieves did leave my underwear and shoes on the shelves. We double checked to make sure the door was locked before we left, and when we returned from dinner the door was locked again. The windows were bolted shut and there was no other way to enter our room, so basically someone WITH A KEY came into our room, stole everything out of it, and then locked the door behind them. I freaked out and ran down to the lobby, where I told the hotel employee, Raul, about what had happened. He REFUSED to call the police for us until I started yelling at him in Spanish, and when he learned I was fluent in Spanish he began to cooperate more. The cops came and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but just stand there. Raul, the young guy working the front desk, told the police that we must have lost our stuff (although how you can lose three suitcases full of clothes AFTER unpacking them in your room I don't know). We did file a police report, however that did not really even help the situation because nothing came of it. On top of the fact, the hotel would not even give us a refund after what happened, so we ended up leaving and going to a resort with security and safes in the rooms. Seriously, it was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Many other people were complaining on this website about the hotel being disgusting and such, but it really was not bad. The bad thing about this hotel is the safety, seeing that that we were ROBBED BLIND within two hours of checking in. Luckily I had both my boyfriend's and my passport in my purse, as well as my wallet and phone, but EVERYTHING ELSE was taken. All of my clothes, jewelry, and make- up were stolen, and all of my boyfriend's clothes as well. In addition, an envelope that contained paperwork like hotel and flight reservations, airline tickets, and other personal information was taken as well. There is a lot more that I would like to write in this review, including who the police suspected of taking our belongings, but the review will not get posted if I include that information, and I want as many peole to read this as possible in hopes that the same thing doesn't happen to them that happened to us. I am not saying every person who stays here will get robbed, but you will be taking a huge risk by doing so. Many of my friends stayed at the Tesoro Los Cabos, and the rates there were very reasonable for a SAFE HOTEL, so do yourself a favor: pay just a little bit more for a hotel where you know you and your belongings will be safe.

  • Liked — The location was near the nightlife(if I must say anything good about this hotel)
  • Disliked — We were robbed at this hotel!!

“Great Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2007

This hotel seems to be an old apartment complex, maybe some apartments still occupied. The location for young adults is great! Very close to the Nightlife and a short walk to the beach. The king bed was basically 2-beds pushed together and was not very comfortable - but we really didn't go to Cabo to sleep. The room was cleaned daily. Bathroom seemed alright - the toilet was clean, the shower could have used a little attention. The pool area is VERY nice and relaxing. The staff was VERY helpful and courteous - RAUL was the guy who checked us in and he was helpful.
Overall I would not stay there with my family because the location is so close to the nightlife, but for 5 crazy women having a "Spring Break" we couldn't have asked for more... Enjoy your stay

“The Place To Be If You Plan To Party...but Not For Families!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2006

I stayed at the Villa Del Pescador for 3 nights from April 15th to April 18th. After arriving at the airport, grabbing a shuttle and seeing all the grand hotels where our co-passengers were dropped off, the Villas seemed like a seedy run-down bordello from the outside. (pic) When we walked in however, the manager Carlos (the only person there who speaks English) was very welcoming and let us know that our room was not ready yet (we arrived at around 10:30am) and we could wait by the pool and he would bring us a bucket of beers. When the room was ready, Carlos personally escorted us to the room which was up the CRAZIEST staircase I've ever been up! (pic)

THE ROOM was fine, a view of a car wash place and a taped-up air conditioner. (more pics) The bathroom was clean and the toilet was not gross like others here have said (they probably had a different room). The beds were hard and the pillows were thin but that didn't matter to us since we didn't come to Cabo to sleep! The room was next to a noisy street but the air-conditioner masked most of the sound outside so no problem. The funniest thing about the room was the broken doorknob on the bathroom door which prevented us from using the bathroom the first night. (pic) We eventually used a towel to strategically grab the door and pry it open (fun). Also the maintenance guy was in the middle of replacing the shower head when we arrived and never got around to finishing it so we had a sort of "shower-by-hose" thing going on (pic).

THE STAFF were very friendly and brought us coffee and tea to us outside every morning as requested (in Spanish, but so what?!). The poolside had plenty of clean chairs and tables with one of those large straw awning things (what are they called?). The hotel played a DVD-audio mix of lots of relaxing and fun music, good to chill out to. Carlos was always wandering around to say "what's up" and he booked us a spot on a booze-cruise later in the trip which wroked out fine.

THE LOCATION was the best part of the Villas! Two blocks from El Squid Roe, the Zoo, Giggling Marlin, Cabo Wabo, The Nowhere Bar etc., and about an 8 minute walk to the beach. The Villas provided a great jumping off point for going out and partying or going to the beach and coming back without those nasty cab expenses.

IN CONCLUSION the Villas Del Pescador is great for college kids or couples who plan to go out and about in Cabo. It is close to the beach and really close to the nightlife. The rooms are good enough for their purpose and the staff is friendly. This isn't a resort where you can be on vacation in Mexico yet have no contact with the locals and never have to speak spanish (like some other reviewers obviously wanted). Having that said, the Villas Del Pescador is not good for families because it has an atomsphere much more conducive to college-age drinking and partying. Most of the other people staying there were in their early to mid-twenties and we all had beers in our hands and/or talked about going out and partying every night so it may not be appropriate for the little ones. For the partiers, this place is great if you know why you came to Cabo in the first place!

“do not stay in a standard room!!!! (pics inside)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2006

This was just plain terrible!!! LIES, LIES AND MORE BLOODY LIES!! Below are the "QUOATED" room features from expedia:

One king bed, or one queen bed, or two double beds. Balcony or Patio. Separate sitting area and desk. Cable/satellite TV. Microwave, refrigerator, and complimentary bottled water. Private bathroom. Air conditioning and ceiling fan.

The ONLY true features of this room were the TV and the private bathroom! THAT’S ALL!!

We pulled up to a shack sometime Sunday night when my girlfriend cried "I hope this is not the place!". We proceeded into the shack to find that the hotel owner and manager were not present. Instead we were dealing with "a friend" who was helping. Anyway, he couldn’t find our room until he consulted with the maintenance guy (who spoke no English). Finally he took us to our room and my gosh we, yes WE (even him) were speechless. No words surfaced our lips as the door slammed behind us.

Now for the details. There was one FULL-SIZED bed, NO balcony, NO patio (instead we were treated to a view of a busted roof out of a window which didn’t open), NO separate sitting area, NO desk, NO microwave, NO refrigerator, NO bottled water, yes, there was an air conditioner but the plug was NOT TO STANDARD with the outlet so it WOULD NOT FIT, NO ceiling fan! It was terrible! Half eaten roach carcasses could be spotted behind the garbage can, mold and who knows how old toothpaste stains were found on the side of the sink faucet, and most of the wood was bitten by termites or something of that sort. There was NO... I repeat NO knob to control the bath/shower water!! YUCK!! There were long strands of hair all over the pillows and last but not least, none of the management present spoke any English at all!! Seriously I learned Spanish in about 1 hr to complain to these people.

Finally after 3 hours of pacing, teeder-toddering with expedia, and fumbling through Spanish for idiots to communicate with the so-called management I was free of this horrible curse. I mean it was almost a trip ender... she (my girlfriend) was ready to head back to the states right when we got there. Finally we got relocated to best western quinta del sol. Best move ever! We loved it. The best western was very clean, very homey, had a kitchen and air condition that actually worked and all that good stuff. So be advised... the standard rooms that claim to have all of that good stuff do not and I would not recommend staying there... ever!

Oh yea by the way, when I was talking to one of the guys who was helping out at the hotel and I told him about all of the features that this hotel supposedly had and he laughed and said "that’s funny... none of the standard rooms have any of that." Anyway, enjoy the pictures and I hope this review helps some of you planning to stay here. P.S. the water in this hotel is not purified.
