“Perfect Hotel if the beach isn't important”

This hotel was probably really nice in it's heyday. It's still a fine place and has all the amenities and it's cute too, though a little rundown (for example the towels are so worn there are holes in them). The pool is great, there is a little store and a laundry service as well. The location is perfect if you don't mind a short walk to the "strip". There is parking for your car. Considering the cost of hotels in Cabo, I think the Santa Fe is a good value and I would definitely stay there again.

Hotel Santa Fe was the perfect hotel for my wife and me, but it is definitely not for every traveler. Don't stay here if you are looking for the super touristy, beach front, 5 star experience. Stay here if you want a quiet, out-of-the-way location with friendly service and cleanliness. Most of the other guest were Mexicans, and the staff did not speak perfect English. The staff was friendly, and we were never hassled to do a time-share tour. The rooms are little on the shabby side, but very clean, with maid service everyday. The super-mini and deli downstairs were very convenient. I would NOT call the neighborhood a slum, (like a previous reviewer did.) It was just a local neighborhood, felt adequately safe at night. The beach is a walk, but not too far if you like walking. There are many small, local restaurants around the neighborhood that were very good (in fact, the only time my wife and I got sick was when we ate at a touristy beachfront restaurant.) There is also an excellent coffee shop one and a half blocks north, and one block east. My wife and I prefer local establishments, and even though the Santa Fe is owned by another one of the big resorts, it has a local feel, and if you don't need to be pampered, and you'd like to save a little money, stay here.

“This place is a dump! And they rip you off too!”

We booked our week at Santa Fe because we were uneasy about not having a plan B should we get there without a hotel reservation. Upon arriving their we discovered that not only did our room share an open doorway with the neighboring suite without a lock but we were in a slumb and our rock hard be boardered the sliding glass door entry. When we told the management we were leaving and we were not going to check in they said we won't charge expedia and you can deal with it at home. When we got home, they did not keep there word and charged us for the time we never even spent there. Mexico is full of dishonest people and the management at Santa Fe is no different. I would highly recomend not staying in this dive of a hotel!

“Would try'em again, but not great.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2004

Not a great Hotel, but not bad for a budget. The staff was friendly, limitted english, but as accomadating as possible. When we first arrived we were very optomistic. But even before we could check in they had a mistake in our reservation. They tried twice to send us to the normal room instead of the upgraded room we had paid for. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't upgrade the room. On our third attempt we got the room we were suposed to. It was clean (clean as most hotels that is) and we were excited about how the staff made a swan out of the hand towel in the bathroom and folded the other towels to look attractive. We even took pictures hoping to post them, thinking that maybe this hotel was getting a bum wrap with people comparing it to higher end hotels. Parking can be very limitted if you get in late and you may have to park on the street. The last few nights of our stay there was no hot water due to a water heater failer. This was not a huge deal since the unheated water temp was barable. The refridgerator needed to be defrosted before it would cool efficently. The distance to Squid Row is as described, but I assume most people would prefer to drive due to the heat. I would consider staying here again because of the price and the willingness of the staff to be helpful and friendly.

Non-Hotel, Cabo report. This town is very very touristy. Very expensive for Mexico. Way too many Time share solicitors. If you attend their presentations, plan on at least double the time they promised you. Was hit up by a few drug dealers and one prostitute. If you are willing to go off the beaten path you can find some vallues. Driving was not bad here, just be cautious. One plus was the Costco on your way into town, just like the ones here, and of course your card works there also. If you need internet access, there are cafe's all over the place. $2-3/ hour and if you have your own laptop you can hookup for the same price. At the airport don't shop downstairs, the shops upstairs have better prices. You can purchase perfumes, liquor, and the like there. Have fun.
