I must have read over three dozen reviews about Sirena Del Mar before we arrived. Each day I would look thinking I would find something less than spectacular. NOPE. Never did.
We visited between Jan 28th - Feb 4th (yes, a bit slow posting).
We were promptly greeted outside the airport by our driver (recommend Transpenninsula Service - can be arranged through resort). It was very worth it (if not renting a car) to be picked up in style (one other couple in vehicle - brand new Tahoe) and taken directly to the resort.
We were greeted by smiling Antonio who registered us. Unfortunately, our room wasn't quite ready-- so we enjoyed welcome drinks on the patio directly beside the pool (see pic). From the moment we arrived we loved the resort. While some may say it's a bit small -- this was seen as a total advantage. We NEVER had to get up early and/or search for poolside chairs.
Our room was in the newer building (just opened in December). We had a one bedroom (studio) with full kitchen on the ground floor. Room was exceptionally clean and very appealing with modern furniture. It is completely stocked with everything you may need should you decide to buy groceries and cook meals. We had coffee on the balcony every morning and were lucky enough to enjoy the whale show (yes, I said whales) from our room. Simply amazing!
The gym is very orderly with all brand new nautilus equipment and free weights. We used the gym 6 out of the 7 days and never had to wait to use any equipment -- in addition, the view when you're on the treadmill, bike or eliptical is STUNNING!
Service was outstanding. While everyone was responsive our personal favorites were: Jorge and Carlos. Carlos was there (Palapas) each morning and greeted us with the biggest grin. He made great suggestions. Our favorites from the breakfast menu: Sirena Del Mar Omelet and Blueberry Pancakes. Ask Jorge to make you a Pacific Blue and tell him the Canadian sent you!
The pool bar has happy hour everyday from 2-3pm. In addition, they have a pool party day (Sunday) where it's all you can eat/drink from 12-3pm. There are other special days: Taco Tuesday ($2.00 tacos -- suggest fish) and Mexican Fiesta (Friday evening). We enjoyed all of these.
If venturing off the resort you must, must go to Maro's Shrimp House (I wrote a review while we there!!).
The resort has a private beach. Some posts said it was more than 100 steps away. WOW!! A hundred steps from my room. It has a very good path and stair case to the private beach where we were able to snorkel and swim without a mess of people. We even watched some folks doing Tai Chi on the beach each morning.
Some said to rent a car. A taxi ride into downtown Cabo is $15 each way. A taxi ride to WalMart is $10. I'm still not sure if I would rent a car (seemed like a VERY big hassle for some of the others at the resort -- in terms of securing the right insurance) but I would definitely make a trip to Walmart -- get snacks and drinks at a minimum.
We enjoyed (understatement) an hour long couple's massage. It was one of the best I've ever experienced all while having it inside a cabana on the patio with just the right amount of wind coming through the curtains. The massage area is directly behind the firepit. Yes, a firepit that is lit every evening and right now is very enjoyable in the evening. Don't forget to try to hot tub. It was lovely and has plenty of seating in and outside of it.
We arranged a Land's End tour through the resort with Ponchito's. They picked us up at the resort and delivered back to the resort when we were done. The cost for the tour (4.5 hours long) was $50/each so when you figure we would've paid $30 for roundtrip to downtown it was well worth it as we got to snorkel and explore around Land's End.
As I said before the service was excellent however it did seem that the resort (management) should explore additional staffing needs during peak times and/or resort 'sold out' conditions as it seemed that the servers that were working at these times were stretched.
We always end our trip with the question, "Would we go back?" I was trying to figure out the WHEN part to that question. It's really not a matter of would we -- rather -- when can we.
Special thanks to Tammy Florez, Gina, Antonio, Carlos and last but not least -- Jorge! Mucho gracias!!
