“No better than Average”

We stayed here to attend a wedding in Whitburn

Positives - the room has a comforatble king size bed, and the hotel is very clean

Negatives - toiletries are basic, the room was a bit cold, the price is a bit high for the location (but then they have no competition). After the wedding, we returned to the hotel and wanted a drink in the bar. They served us one drink, then asked us to move into a side room. This room was really cold. The waiter served us, then disappeared. We had to wait ages for anyone to come back - and then it was pricey! They made it pretty obvious that we were a total inconvenience - there was a comment about someone having to stay up to serve us.

The worst however, was the breakfast. Breakfast was 8 till 10. We went down about 9.40 - and got our breakfast just before 10.30!!! I have never waited so long for breakfast anywhere I have ever stayed. When it came, I asked for a fresh pot of tea as ours had gone cold, but it never came.
We waited so long, we were late checking out (checkout is 11) but at least they didn't complain.

To be fair, I had messed up on the booking. I booked for 1 person instead of 2 (Best Western website is not the best.) They added £20 onto the bill, which was reasonable I suppose, but no way was that breakfast worth it!

I wouldn't recommend it, nor would I stay there again.

I messed up on the booking. I booked for one person instead of 2 (Best Wester's website is not the best) and they were OK about it

“Best Western - The Hilcroft Hotel, Whitburn. Breakfast could have been improved!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2009

A large group ( approx 16+)booked for wedding reception in Chapel Hall. In that group had variance of rooms, some had been updated others hadn't., obviously more work in the pipeline, althought they were all good size , appearance, comnfort & cleaniless (ourRoom Maid was Bernadette - well done!. Bar & other rooms well presented & clean. Staff could seem a little sour- but they did have a wedding actually on in the hotel, so porbably rushed off their feet, eventually warmed up by end of our stay. Always helpful. Menu selction in bar 1 to 8 good, food tasty. Good atomspehre in the place.
Breakfast needs a little boost, maybe better in the future if they have a small buffet if they have big parties booked in, only small negative.
I see they do have various types of functions in the year from Wedding Fayres to Murder Mystery nights!

“Not quite a Best Western standard!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2008

We attended a Civil Partnership ceremony back last month, and on arrival we found the Hillcroft looked relatively nice, easy to find.
We got to the reception to be told our rom was still getting cleaned, and not surprising as the cleaning staff were working overtime, with a wedding taking place, too on the day. After 20 mintues we were allowed to our room, only to discover the girl was still cleaning away. Once done, after a couple of minutes, the room was spotless, and smelt fresh. King size beds, were relatively comfy, which is the norm for best western and good selection of shower gel and shampoo. The biggest plus is that the food in the veneing is excellent, the bar staff could really give you a smile now and again, but our advise AVOID the breakfast, it is very greasy and tasteless indeed. Would we stay again, probably not.....

“An excellent overall experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2008

Spent 3 nights here while visitng Scotland for the first time. It is in an excellent location - between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Room spotless and modern. 108 Bar and Restaurant was a real surprise - beautifully decorated, extensive menu and good service. Will definitely be booking here again!

“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2008

We are fairly local to this area but stayed over after a function and this hotel didn't disappoint. Room spotlessly clean and well equipped. Breakfast and service of a very high standard.

Ideal base for those wishing to explore Edinburgh and Glasgow not to forget the excellent shopping facilities in nearby Livingston.
