My wife and I stayed a couple nights in October while visiting Cape Breton. We wanted a centralized location that would provide easy access to some of the best hiking and views and Pleasant Bay is just the spot. The B&B is nice, the food was excellent and it was like we were family. We enjoyed meeting everyone that was there and our hostess was very friendly. She even drove down the street in a terrible storm to one of the local restaurants to get us hot coffee when the power went out due to high winds on the island.

The only down side is sound really carries between rooms.

If we go back to Cape Breton this is where we will stay!

Checked out tripadvisor before i booked, saw mainly good comments and a few bad thought I'd book anyway. Point of the trip was to be in Cape Breton for the changing of the leaves.

Anna sent me an email 6 days before our arrival date saying that she was sorry but she would not be around to host me as she had gotten a job out west, needless to say I was less than impressed.

Further more i had originally posted the actual email Anna sent however it was removed as you are unable to post quotes on tripadvisor and someone complained about this, I can only assume it was Anna as i responded to her cancellation email stating that i posted it to this website.

Just thought i would share. And found it interesting that no attempt was made to retain us as customers in the form of a discount on future stays, or something...............

I can tell you i would never book with her again.

FYI: We ended up booking at Oakwood Manor and it was excellent.

This is a little pricey for a B&B but good value and great host. Food was outstanding. Anna the owner knows how to treat her customers. Walking distance to harbour and whale watching (ask Anna about discount for whale tour and free entry to whale interpretation centre). You will not be disappointed at Highland Breeze.

There's something to be said for familiarity.I stayed at Anna's B&B two years ago and it left me with the longing to go back.The three of us headed back on Sept.17th/2011 and although Anna was not able to be there we were treated very warmly and the house has a calm that you need when your world is upside down.We as a family had a very unsettled week and right up to heading out, trouble was trying it's best to get us to cancel again.But,I held on to the hope of Anna's place of solace and sure enough our blues were lifted,my pain level down from a long soak in the hot tub and a renewed interest in Astronomy.To look up on a crisp Sept.night and see the big dipper and shooting stars reminds me always to thank God for the gifts we so often overlook by life's trials and tribulations.
