The town along with several places in the vicinity got badly hurt from the Jimena hurricane in September 2009. The rooms that have been restored are nice clean and with new everything. Is not a fancy hotel by any means and a lot of damage in the hotel is still waiting for repairs. The recession has not been kind to this area and there is only so much they can do to fix the entire property, which is very large. It has great bones in a lonely but charming little town. We used Pachico tours and we were almost going to give up on a friendly to come by, when a mother and a baby came to the only remaining boat. This is one of my 10 most incredible experiences to touch a baby and a mother whale! They desperately need the tourist income to keep this place afloat. They also have one of the nicest Missions and there are a lot of cave paintings in the area. Visit the friendly store in the corner of the plaza by the mission and try the date bread.
