“San Miguel de Allende is Safe and "Susurro" is Wonderful!”

My husband and I returned to San Miguel de Allende, for the second time in 7 years to observe the "Semana Santa" celebrations this April, 2011. We immediately contacted Robert Waters to make sure that we could stay once again at "Susurro", which had been our Mexican "home away from home" during our last visit in November, 2004.
Our stay of 10 days was delightful! San MIguel is completely safe, and, even though family and friends were skeptical of our travel to Mexico, we were once again surrounded and embraced by the beauty, the hospitality and the friendliness that is only Mexico. Nothing has changed in San Miguel, and the city was full of Mexican families enjoying their Easter vacations.
"Susurro" is still as pleasing to the senses as it was 7 years ago..., from Lola's breakfasts, always delicious, always changing, to the beautiful and comfortalbe colonial architecture, to Robert's gracious hospitality.
Hasta la proxima vez.

“Spanish Colonial elegance with exceptional hospitality and comfort.”

Robert Waters has created a gem in San Miguel de Allende: 4 unique rooms set in his private hacienda. Each accomodation feels very private; 3 have terraces, and there is a beautiful roof garden for all. Additionally there is a lovely living room and 2 separate courtyard garden areas for sitting. The quiet sound of falling water from the fountain adds to the feeling of intimacy. Our breakfasts with Robert were delicious and conversation always interesting. The staff was very helpful and meticulous in their cooking and care of the environment. My adult daughter and I spent a week at Susurro, and will surely return to stay there again if we are fortunate enough to return to San Miguel.

“Delightful in every aspect-ambiance, food, hospitality, everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

We stayed at the Susurro for three days this winter. Our group included myself, husband and two adult children. Before we arrived we had contact with the owner Robert Walters who extended himself in terms of arranging transportation to and from. His attention to details continued. Each room was beautifully and comfortably furnished with access to the beautiful outside gardens. Breakfast was delicious, interesting and served in a lovely dining room with Robert acting as host. The other guests were friendly and interesting as well. The B and B is situated on a quiet street very close to the center of San Miguel. We would return to the Susurro as much for that experience as going back to San Miguel.

“Look No Further”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

Susurro, inexplicably, seems off the radar of a number of the major guidebooks. I have stayed in B&Bs and small inns around the world for over 30 years. Without doubt, Susurro is one of the best I ever have enjoyed. Robert, the owner, has worked hard to create a lodging experience that surpasses the competition. The inn is centrally located on a quaint, cobbled street. The rooms are laid out around a courtyard garden, living room, and dining area with beautiful decor throughout. Our room, Pinas, was spacious and welcoming with a gas fireplace and about the most comfortable bed I have encountered in Mexico. Robert has added many thoughtful touches, including bathroom amenities, purified tap water, and his own, well-considered, guide to local attractions, restaurants, and bars. Breakfasts added a whole further dimension of delight and were so good I would be tempted to recommend a stay for them alone. The host of preceding five-star reviews are spot on.

“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2010

A friend and I stayed in Las Pinas room for 9 nights and we weren't really ready to leave. We had the room made up in twin beds and it was very comfortable.....large room, lovely private patio, fireplace, comfy chair, roomy bath and great beds. The house looks like an old Mexican villa even though it was just restored a few years ago. There are comfortable relaxing areas, both indoors and outdoors, all over the house and an honor bar which was very welcome after a long day exploring. It is close enough to town to be convenient and just far enough away to be quiet and relaxing.

Robert is the perfect host......he made arrangements for our airport transportation, for a great walking tour of town, for a day trip to Guanajuato/Santa Rosa/Atotonilco and various taxi rides. All worked out great. He has great tips on restaurants and things to do and we really enjoyed our breakfast conversations with him.

Speaking of breakfasts, they were to die for......as good as any restaurant food we had (and we had some really good restaurant meals!). Lola is a gem.

Last, but not least, we really enjoyed Zeke the dog and Charlie the cat. They were both very friendly and visited our room to sit by the screened patio door at least once a day. They added that extra-special touch of home and made us miss our own pets a little less.

We had a fabulous stay and hope to return.
