“Best hotel in San Miguel de Allende...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This is by far the best hotel boutique in town. I've been to the new Rosewood in SMA, which is quite nice, but with a different concept from Hotel Matilda.

I agree with past reviews on the variety of the artwork throughout the hotel, Spencer Tunick at the bar and spa, Nacho Rodriguez´s psychedelic patio at the reception is amazing and Javier Marin sculpture on the hallway among others. The staff is very well appointed and knows the background of the pieces.

The rooms are top notch, the quality of the furniture, the Malin + Goetz apothecary, the linens etc... overall, great taste on the whole concept on its decoration

I won´t hesitate on spreading the word and recommend this relatively new hotel in SMA. We did not fully tried the food at Matilda´s restaurant, but I can tell you that I would not be disappointed. The bar has the best atmosphere for drinks with a vast variety of high end liquors, great for just hanging out.

Places that I can recommend in SMA for eating: Mama Mia (Italian) and Pescau (best seafood in SMA).

“Oasis of modernity and luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

San Miguel de Allende is a chic little town with a wonderful vibe and the Hotel Matilda is the pinnacle of taste and quality in the area. The rooms are perfectly decorated and the art throughout the property is museum quality. The spa is the best in town, with a small but modern gym, Hamam facilities, incredible treatment rooms and an incredible staff.

Ladies night at the bar on Thursdays is a must, with a world-class DJ and a great bar menu. For every event, from weddings to a corporate events, and from a romantic get-away to a stag-party weekend, THIS is the place to go.

“Unique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We live in Mexico City and have visited San Miguel de Allende many many times.
Hotel Matilda was on our list of places to visit, and it was even better than we had expected!
99% of the hotels in SMA are Mexican Colonial, so immediately Matilda stands out! It is very tastefully decorated, they have a fun art collection, the public spaces are incredibly pleasant - the bar, the restaurant and the SPA are a must, and the staff is incredible!
The rooms are small, classy and comfortable; the bathroom is cool and the amenities are different. I would recommend it without hesitation!

“It's like staying in an art gallery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

This new, boutique hotel has a fabulous spa, great food and amazing artwork.

The City of San Miguel is known for art schools and attracting international, budding artists; pottery, textiles and contemporary art boutiques are all over this UNESCO-protected city. The Matilda seeks to capture this artistic essence with clean lines and smooth surfaces framed by strategically placed works of art – reminiscent of an art gallery. In fact, the famed Diego Rivera painted the hotel owner’s mother in San Miguel when she was a young girl. Her name is Matilda and a replica of this painting hangs in the main lobby.

While the art is great, the spa experience is the highlight here. As soon as you check-in, a young lady comes to your room to massage your head and shoulders. It is a perfect way to relieve tension after the 1 1/2 hour plane ride to San Miguel de Allende. The welcome massage is just a hint of things to come. Don't miss the Hamman. It is the best ever!!

Room Tip: Ask to have your room over look the pool.
