“colonial masterpiece at discount prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2009

I stayed here for a wedding near the lake, so this was a perfect location. What a wonderful surprise to find my room, actually called a Villa, to have a good sized living room, kitchen, bedroom with balcony, and a large bath for 760 pesos. The rooms were well insulated - I didn't hear any noise from any other part of the hotel. This is a gracious place to stay - I would recommend it without reservation. Be forewarned, this hotel is not located near the central plaza, as it is on the edge of town.

“Not a fan of Mision de los Angeles”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2008

Quick note/disclosure before I write the full review:

I did not choose to stay here but instead did so because one of my best friends was going to have his wedding here.

The only real reason to go to San Miguel de Allende is to be IN San Miguel de Allende so you can step right out of your hotel and walk around town....so the first big issue for Mision de los Angeles is that it's outside of San Miguel and it isn't walking distance from town. Not only is it outside of San Miguel, but it's right next to a main road where tons of buses and trucks drive by 24-hours a day - 25% of the rooms are next to this road. In the hotel's defense, they do have a shuttle to-and-from downtown San Miguel.

The rooms aren't all that bad, but none of them have A/C eventhough temperature can creap up to 100 F (40 C). Once again, in the hotel's defense, each room does have a fan - so if you can bare the heat with just a fan, then this shouldn't be an issue.

My room turned out alright, but another couple in our group was full of tiny little bug bites....where did the bug bites come from??? From the bed bugs in their room's matress!!! As if this weren't enough, when they went over to the reception to ask for a room change the person in charge said there were no more rooms and simply handed them a can of Raid. Now that was damn classy!!! The hotel finally switched them to another room the enxt day when they went to complain with the groom in tow - he speaks perfect Spanish and made a more convincing argument I guess.

I'm actually from Mexico, so I can comfortably say - the food is not good here. All of my friends kept going across the street to a small local deli for a 10-peso torta instead of having the food from the hotel's kitchen.

The pool is nice and well maintained, but if you choose to stay in and chillout be sure to bring your own drinks because the hotel wait staff takes forever to serve you. It took us over 45 minutes to get a beer.

The hotel was perfect for the wedding because of two reasons: the garden/pool area is perfect for events, and the hotel was small enough that the only people staying here were from the wedding - so noise at 5 AM wasn't an issue.

So if you're going to have a wedding in San Miguel, then this is the place! But if you want to travel to san Miguel and get a feel for it, then avoid Mision de los Angeles!

“Very nice and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2008

The suite or villa at this hotel was very nice, spacious, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was very nice at the front desk and at the restaurant. The restaurant serves a wide array of delicious Mexican dishes. Our waiter was very nice and their food was very good. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The only problem is that there is no heating or air conditioning. While this did not pose an inconvenience for us given that we visited during the Winter, you may want to reconsider if you plan on visiting during the summer.

“Ideal hotel for a stay in SMA”

Returned this week from touring Guanajuato area and stayed 4 days at this hotel. Staff we most accommodating and willing to run us into town by Hotel shuttle anytime. (no charge) Returned by taxi which cost an average of $3. Mega supermacado down the road with wonderful roast chickens if you don't want a restaurant meal. Dinner in the hotel, nothing special, but breakfast included in room rate. We booked direct and were given an even lower rate when we arrived of 876.33 pesos per night. Swimming pool is wonderful for a lap swim workout and spotlessly clean

“Fantastic!”

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to San Miguel. I stayed there for 2 nights during a bus tour of Mexico over spring break. The rooms are beautiful, especially the suites which come with three balconies, a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms (4 beds), and two bathrooms. The bathrooms had large, sunken, spanish tiled bathtub/shower combos with skylights! Each room also has a view of the beautiful pool area. The only drawback I could find is the hotel is located outside of downtown. We found it too far to walk, but the taxi ride took about 5 minutes and cost less than $5 in American currency for all 5 of us. If you stay here, you won't be disappointed.
