“Lovely location, good service but cold cold rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel has a lovely environment to relax in, with great food and very helpful staff (bar one bad egg). The shuttle into town is a short ride and was always available, and its cM$30 to get back in a taxi. The only problem was our rooms, which were exceedingly cold all the time - something of an achievement in such a hot area. They were as low as 15 degrees celsius, which given our 1 year old was there wasn't a good thing, and they were really too cold to relax in, even during the day (it was warmer outside!). To their credit the staff were helpful, and they found us two electric heaters which made the stay bearable after the first night (temperature got as high as 18 degrees). Overall though, given the very high price of the hotel, its an incredible shame that the rooms are this cold as it undermines the rest of the experience. NB: if gym is important, then this hotel will disappoint.

“Heavenly Retreat in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

La Puertecita Hotel is in the most exclusive neighborhood in San Miguel de Allende, El Atascadero. It is a short walk to el Jardin yet away from the buzz and noises of downtown el centro. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. The staff was superb down to every detail. The service includes a shuttle anytime to anywhere in town free of charge. The spa and pool looked heavenly though I did not get to use either one. The food at the hotel restaurant was outstanding, try the coconut shrimp with orange sauce. The place is a famous wedding spot due to its romantic setting, natural gardens with flowering bugambilias all year around.
La Puertecita is definitely my home in San Miguel.

Room Tip: I booked a regular room and they upgraded me to a junior suite upon arrival without me asking.

“Could not have been better!”

Thank you Luxury Link (www.luxurylink.com). We would not have stayed here if it were not for a great package offered on LL. The package was for 3 nights and included transfers from the Leon airport which we found very convenient.
Service at this boutique hotel was exceptional.
And...be sure to have one, or two, of Maribel's margaritas.
NOTICE, this property, and most all of San Miguel, in NOT handicap friendly. Lots of steps, and cobblestones.

Room Tip: Ask for "Bugambilla". It's a large room with a private outdoor patio and a king bed.

“Charming hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We recently stayed at La Puertacita with a LuxuryLink package and were delighted with the property as well as the staff. The manager Erik kindly accommodated our request to change the package from one room for 3 nights to 2 rooms for 1 night with a room upgrade. The location is outside the city center and probably not easy walking distance but the hotel has a shuttle down the hill and a taxi ride back is quite reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

“Great service, a bit out of town, provided a bargain package.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

My wife and I stayed at la Puertacita the second week of June, 2011. We ended up there because I purchased a package through LuxuryLink.com. The package included six nights stay, five days of language lessons, transfers from Leon, and some meals. It was an awesome deal! I think we paid $1,300 for the entire thing.

Anyway, the hotel is located just east of town, out of el centro by about a mile and a half. It's a down-hill walk into town (we did it once), but quite a hike back. The hotel offers a shuttle that was available most of the time we were there (the place was pretty empty until the weekend). And a cab ride to or from is only 25 pesos (about $2.30). The disadvantage of the location of the trip into town where most things you want to do in San Miguel are located. The advantage is the surrounding area is much quitier. I've read many complaints about barking dogs in the city. No problems with that at La Puertacita. But, you are also out of the vibe of the city.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite. It was nice, but nothing great. My only complaint was how warm it was in our room at night. There is no a/c, and none of the windows opened. The evenings got cool (into the 50s), but the walls of the building are pretty thick. Even with the ceiling fan on high, it took some time to cool the room. It made for a couple long nights. (I'm a wimp about sleeping in heat.)

There are two pools at the hotel. They are both nice, but during the week we were there I never saw anyone in either of them, or the in the hot tub for that matter. It's not really that kind of a setting. The hotel is very shaded. It sits on the edge of a small valley. Of course the areas around the pools are cleared and nice, there isn't any pool "scene."

If 24/7 access to the internet is a requirement, make sure you get a room close to the office (where the router is located). Ours was some distance away, and I could only connect from our room in the morning, and then barely.

The restaurant was excellent as was the service. Every morning after breakfast the hotel had arranged our ride into town for our Spanish class. They were attentive and responsive. I also appreciate the hotel did not nickel and dime us for everything. Our package covered everything they said it would with no surprises.

Summary:

Pros:
Great service
Restaurant
Value of package
Tranquil area

Cons:
Not much going on at hotel other than sleeping and eating
Distance from town
No A/C
Spotty internet coverage

Room Tip: Comfortable lodging out of action of town.
