“An excellent choice when visiting San Miguel de Allende”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

This is an hacienda, or pueblo, style hotel. It is not a five star Ritz. Staying at this hotel gives you the sensation of going back to time to the beginning of the 20th century in Mexico. The decor is rustic so it blends to San Miguel de Allende's historic downtown.
If you are expecting a Hilton hotel, then Posada La Aldea might not be for you. If you are more into experiencing the local atmosphere, then you are going to love Posada La Aldea.

Two or three reviews below it says this hotel is "overpriced". Everyone knows its own budget, but I paid no more than $70 USD per night, including taxes, and I think it is a fair price for the hotel. I am not used to the $39.95 per night Motel 6 experience.
Anyway, the hotel is nice. It has a big patio, delicious restaurant, a warm pool, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
The room was not perfect when I got there. I made the call to the reception and they changed that burnt out bulb. The view to the central patio and to the Cathedral however was beautiful.

When you are staying at Posada La Aldea you are within walking distance to downtown (8 minute walk or $2USD or 25 pesos taxi ride). You are certain you will not hear the loud music from the downtown discotheques (night life) when you decide to go to sleep.
A delicious Mexican restaurant is just across the street "Hecho en Mexico". Also, for breakfast and dinner you can either go to the Allende Institute's restaurant or the hotel's restaurant.
I guess I can go on and on about this hotel. Like the 24/7 convenient store (and pharmacy) next door: Farmacias Guadalajara and the Domino's Pizzas too.

“They went above and beyond...”

I'm posting this review because we initially had a serious problem when we arrived at the hotel but the hotel staff went above and beyond what was required to fix the situation. They did far more than any hotel I have ever stayed at to redress our concerns and made sure the remainder of our stay was pleasant. What could have been a disastrous long weekend turned into a very pleasant weekend.

The hotel itself is very nice and the grounds well maintained. The staff is very pleasant. There is a handicraft market right across the street on Saturdays and Sundays. There are several restaurants within two blocks and a delightful coffee shop with homemade pastries right up the street called the "Cafe Monet". It is just a bit of walk to the main square, but it is just a couple minute cab ride for just about 20 pesos.

We will definitely be going back....

“Old, Tired, VERY Worn and Over Priced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

The historic building that Posada de la Aldea is located in has potential, but it has been completely ignored. Patched and one step above seedy, this hotel is in desperate need of loving attention. The staff was pleasant, the room dreary, and the overall appearance did not come up to the photographs shown the the web. The price is about the same as the meticulously kept hotel down the street when you figure in the other hotel includes a wonderful complete breakfast.

“One of the best hotels in San Miguel Allende”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2009

It is the first time I returned to a hotel when it was even better than the first time I was there. The service was friendly and obliging. The rooms were large with private bathrooms. The breakfasts were fantastic - they came with the room. It was a great Mexican experience.

“Good value and greta location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2008

San Miguel de Allende is an expensive town as more and more Americans move to live there. This is a good value hotel a few minutes walk from El Jardin. The rooms are a good size and comfortable temperature. Some have a nice view of the internal courtyard. Some look out towards walls and trees but have the sunshine. The restaurant is OK. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was kept very clean. Hot water may be erratic. You can find lower prices anywhere but I've been back here as it seems to be reliable for guaranteed booking by email.
