This is an hacienda, or pueblo, style hotel. It is not a five star Ritz. Staying at this hotel gives you the sensation of going back to time to the beginning of the 20th century in Mexico. The decor is rustic so it blends to San Miguel de Allende's historic downtown.
If you are expecting a Hilton hotel, then Posada La Aldea might not be for you. If you are more into experiencing the local atmosphere, then you are going to love Posada La Aldea.
Two or three reviews below it says this hotel is "overpriced". Everyone knows its own budget, but I paid no more than $70 USD per night, including taxes, and I think it is a fair price for the hotel. I am not used to the $39.95 per night Motel 6 experience.
Anyway, the hotel is nice. It has a big patio, delicious restaurant, a warm pool, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
The room was not perfect when I got there. I made the call to the reception and they changed that burnt out bulb. The view to the central patio and to the Cathedral however was beautiful.
When you are staying at Posada La Aldea you are within walking distance to downtown (8 minute walk or $2USD or 25 pesos taxi ride). You are certain you will not hear the loud music from the downtown discotheques (night life) when you decide to go to sleep.
A delicious Mexican restaurant is just across the street "Hecho en Mexico". Also, for breakfast and dinner you can either go to the Allende Institute's restaurant or the hotel's restaurant.
I guess I can go on and on about this hotel. Like the 24/7 convenient store (and pharmacy) next door: Farmacias Guadalajara and the Domino's Pizzas too.
