“With a little effort it could be great”

The car that picked us up at the airport (1 hour away) had no air conditioning and May is the hotest month of the year. The rooms were very clean but the mattresses, sheets and towels were totally worn out and ceiling fan made so much noise I thought it was going to come off of the ceiling. When I asked if I could use their computer to print out my boarding passes they said no. One person in our party did get sick and Ruth, the owner got us some camonile tea for her. Breakfast was nice. The place is very well located but, it is in desparate need of updating!!!!

“Great Place”

"Ruth's place" is well known in San Miguel - many really interesting people come in for the breakfasts alone. What is special about this inn is the large number of interesting people who stay there - professionals of all sorts, and artists galore. In contrast to some of those who have written reviews, we found the food very good. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Chilly nights brought firewood and a nice fire in the room. We will certainly return next winter, for a much longer time I hope. This year it was for 10 days.

“Outstanding retreat”

My family has had the privilege of staying with Ruth at LMdelB numerous times over the past 25 years. The hotel is charming and was built post-WWII. It is charming ... not the Savoy in London or Waldorf in NYC ... it's Colonial Mexico, after all. Those giving the place a bad rep need to stick to chain motels with stale donuts and coffee, and not a kitchen-made breakfast. Management here doesn't "suffer fools," but dolts on people who appreciate being taken care of. I had a group of photographers here over Easter week years ago for a workshop. We were stranded on Easter Sunday by the railroad and owner Ruth rescued our party, put us up for the night, and arranged transport to Nuevo Larado the next day. That's service above and beyond!

“good location close to center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

we stayed at the La Mansion Del Bosque for one week and found the staff very helpful and friendly. the courtyards are beautiful and the hotel is close to the center of town and wonderful cafes. Some of the rooms there are very nice and spacious, while others are small. It was cool at night and the inn provides a small heater in your room. In the winter season you have to take the inn with 2 meals included but we did not eat at the inn but two nights since we preferred to try local places to eat. The breakfast was great although you have to pay extra for some items. The staff brings water to your room to drink but my GI system preferred bottled water which you can buy in the dining room. You can take Tango classes at the inn if scheduled in advance
Don't miss the markets and all San Miguel has to offer. Easy to walk everywhere and safe. We did take a few side trips which was nice. The shuttle back to the airport was safe and arrived on time . I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, just inquire re the rooms before booking, it would be nice if all the rooms had photos so you have some idea what you are getting. The location was noisy at times but generally was fine.
Ruth and her family can recommend things to do in the area, like horse back riding and visits to the hot springs.

“Cute room, very bad food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2009

The rooms are cute and show an artist's touch. The courtyard is lovely. The location is very good. But the manager seemed annoyed by our very presence. Worst of all was the food. It was included in the price, and we chose this place because a guide book said the owner is a cookbook author who uses local ingredients and personally supervises meal preparation. The food was awful, barely cafeteria quality. And the portions were stingy.
