the good,
great location, a lot of charm with old tiles, stucco walls, etc. decent selection of movies to watch on a rainy day, plenty of space to relax, read, cook, etc. the linens were clean we were warm enough and cool enough with the use of the fan and fireplace. nanci was nice and helpful in getting us settled in.
the not so good:
place is overstocked with stuff. some is nanci's art which is quite nice, others are antiques, rugs, plants, over 100 books, etc. because of the excessive decor, it's very difficult to keep clean. the place was quite dusty and dirty. the books looked as if they had not been picked up in a long time and just collected dust. there were cob webs around, we needed to wash the dishes before use (some were just not clean, other were dusty from non use), the plants were loaded with dust, the tv an stereo system are all old and not great. the internet connection was touch and go. it lacked a little privacy as everyone passes by your living room, kitchen and bedroom windows ( not great for a couple looking for romance)
we also had an incident with money missing from our room. we had counted and even written down what we had before leaving for the day and when we returned there was $10 USD missing. we let the owner know and asked for the housekeeper not be allowed back in while we were there. we were content with the owner's response. we certainly didn't expect her to fire her housekeeper based on our word but told her more for awareness. on that note I would say where ever you stay where there is NOT a safe for your money, passport etc, be very careful and count each day before leaving and upon your return.
safety here at the casita is somewhat dependent of the other tenants locking the front gate and there 6 or 7 times during our stay that the door was left unlocked, opened, or with keys right in it.
it was very noisy, but this is mexico so you have to come prepared. it was noisier than any other location, but one should be prepared to bring some ear plugs and learn to block out the noise. especially noisy during independence celebrations where some of the fireworks sound like bombs.
all in all i would say our experience was pretty good, not wonderful. for us it would have been close to perfect if the excessive decor was toned down significantly and the place had a thorough cleaning bc as mentioned before, it's got such charm. i wouldn't rule out staying here again, but as we wandered around we also checked out other places and there seems to better values out there for the money; even within the historic center.
Note: Sorry all the photos I have are the ugly ones, we had nice ones as well but they are not saved. we found the casita to look just as the other photos posted here and on nanci's site
