we stayed in two appartments out of four in Villa Subtilia. this was our first time and we arrived at midnight to a floodlit infinity pool and a backdrop of a floodlit castle down the valley. Everybody just whooped and couldn't resist jumping straight in! i was travelling with six young people aged 11-17 and everybody said it was the best holiday they'd ever had. Getting out to play on the championship golf course was an unexpected treat for me and there were enough interesting places to visit that were within an hour's drive to keep everyone happy. as one of the other reviewers said, it is very tempting not to review this place as, selfishly, it seems a perfect holiday secret. However the owners are so friendly and kind that it seems right to share it. i should also make mention of the wonderful lady who comes and cleans every day. i really can't think of a way of improving on anything; the decor is a wonderful balance of old and modern, the colour schemes are very Fired Earth, everything works and the people are very friendly and helpful. and for anyone who plays golf, it is almost a sin not to go. As i said in a text to the owner, if this is what heaven is like, i will soon be taking holy orders!

We have stayed in various houses in the Murlo estate for 3 years now and will definitely be returning for many more.
Where to start.
The main recommendation is the location. In a beautiful valley with not a soul around. The views are 360 degrees and fabulous .
The golf course looks good and is a fair challenge...Not very expensive for the experience and easy to get on to.
However on top of this the houses are amazingly comfortable, beautifully decorated ( no third hand furniture here!) , kitchens well equipped and the maid service very good.
If you don't want to cook in house every night the restaurant down the hill in the golf club is an inexpensive option - and for a treat we booked the family chef and butler a couple of times ( great for a grown up evening).
Pools all good where we have stayed but if you want them heated pay extra.In peak season this is not an issue for children!
Carlotta the owner cannot do too much to make your holiday special including delivery of a barbecque and coffee machines!

In July 2010 my husband and I, with our daughters aged 5 & 7, spent 1 week at the villa Torre on the Murlo estate. The villa is clean and immaculately renovated, and best of all has the most amazing hilltop views in perfect seclusion. The garden area with the infinity pool is extrememly well kept with quality outdoor furniture. The living areas and bedrooms are very comfortable and elegant.
Despite the isolation we felt secure due to the proximity of the Antognolla Golf Resort and attentiveness of the estate staff. Any issues that arose were immediately and efficiently delt with.
The area is beautiful and has a lot to offer tourists, we were recommended a great riding stables where our girls (complete novices) had lessons. My husband enjoyed private golf lessons and the complimentary use (for villa guests) of the driving range at the Golf club. There is a superb restaurant at the Golf club.
If you are looking for luxurious, restful accomodation in Umbria then you need look no further than the Murlo estate. Highly recommended.

My family and I visited Villa San Savino in the Murlo Estate last August. The isolated setting with vast views and ample peace and quiet was wonderful. We enjoyed the golf course down the hill, the restaurant at the golf course (which was so good that it made driving further unnecessary), and most of all the rustic charm of this restored ancient farmhouse. The breakfast service was fantastic, and Carlotta, the owner of the estate was very helpful and a delight to converse with!
