“Arogant and Unfriendly Staff and Owners”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

The is in a good location on one of the most beautiful beaches. However i would definitely avoid this place. The Staff including the owners are so arogant and unfriendly!!!The hotel is very expensive and i must say it doesn't worth it. We stayed there for three nights and after the first night we already wanted to leave this horrible place. The owner lied to us, the AC didn't work and they even didn't mention it when they showed us the room. Later the reception clerk told us that the the owner of the hotel told her not to mention it to us. The breakfast is served very late (after 08:30) so you must miss it if you are planning a tour (which usually starts at 08:00) although you have to pay for it. Since we had to miss the breakfast which we already paid for in advance, the owner didn't want to give us our money back. The only thing that matters to the staff and owners is TAKING YOUR MONEY by all means! if you try to sit on the beach on one of the sun sits, after 5 seconfs they already ask you to pay!!! in this hotel you just need to PAY PAY PAY!!! Don't stay in this place, it doesn't worth it!!!

“Snow white sand on the beach and a clean and roomy room”

El Paraiso is right on the beach of Tulum. There's not so many rooms and they are all interconnected. The front porch is comfortable, as is the rest of the room, hot shower, cable tv, big beds, fan and AC.

Breakfast hours are a bit not-standard: from 8:30 to 11:00, which is good for a day on the beach, but not for doing tours (like diving and snorkeliing) or leaving early for the rest of your trip. The restaurant and bar also close at 18:00.

The beach is great, the rental of beach beds is included in the room fee.

People at the reception are fabulous, but the people at the restaurant have a certain arrogant attitude..

All in all El Paraiso has great rooms, real value for money. A bit more flexibility on the breakfast hours and a smile for the people serving drinks would improve things.

“A comfortable Cabana right on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2010

There´s not much point coming to Tulum if you do not stay on the beach so we opted for El Paraiso. The prices here are quite expensive, $100 USD for a Cabana sleeping two but then you are right on an amazing beach and the accommodation is new, clean and comfortable. Am not sure that you would find anything else much cheaper in this bracket so I would say in all it was worth the money, the only downside being that breakfast does not start until 9am. Get up early for the sunrise views, the fare to the Ruins is 70 Pesos and to the bus station 45. Loads of inexpensive restaurants along Avenue Tulum, a five minute drive from the beach.

“Pricey, but in our opinion worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

In El Paraiso we paid for the night 2 times as much as anywhere else in Mexico (including the capital and Acapulco). So why we stayed there for 3 nights? The beach and the location near the ruins.
The rooms were quite big with 2 large beds and we did not have any problems with the toilet paper as the previous commentators did :) Instead we spent one night without electricity. The management provided us with candles and we had the most romantic night of the whole trip. Yes, it was a problem but it was not a problem for us.
The biggest plus for El Paraiso is the beach. Pure white sand and crystal clear turqoise water. The beach (sand) starts the moment you step out your room (do not be misunderstood - none of the hotel rooms has a sea view). We managed to get by a good 1,5 days without using any shoes/slippers etc. We ate in the restaurants down the beach (sandy floors) and spent the rest of the time snorkeling/sunbathing/walking along the beach/taking pictures. There are 12 km of hotels along the shoreline of Tulum but most of them have very small beaches or no beaches at all (due to the rocky shoreline). The best (wide and sandy) beach starts from the ruins and stretches couple of kilometres. And if you stay in El Paraiso you are right next to that beach. That is why the price is high.
Cons: Pricey, no restaurant (just a bar with high prices), staff a bit slow
Pros: beach, large rooms, near the ruins (you can walk there along the beach) and again - the beach.
Would we stay there again? Probably. We would look around in the same area. If there is nothing that costs considerably less (no nothing cabanas are not a choice for us) then we would definitely cough up the 100US$ for one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
