“tranquil paradise :)”

My boyfriend and I spent 10 days in Tulum and because of the busy season, no place was able to accommodate our 10 day stay in its entirety so we were forced to try just about every hotel on the beach. This was certainly a blessing in disguise as it allowed us to stay at the wonderful la via Laktea. The beach at the la Via Laktea was magnificent and the room was equally beautiful. Unlike many of the other hotels in Tulum, the owners (really nice husband and wife duo) allow their guests to bring outside food into their rooms-- this can really come in handy when you want to make yourself a snack without spending a fortune at the over-priced restaurants at every other hotel on the beach. It was especially wonderful to stay at La Via Laktea because the owners were very helpful when it came to recommending reasonable restaurants/ places to go, yet were completely respectful of our privacy. If you are looking for a romantic and private beach experience, this is definitely the place to go!

“great beach.....”

We were originally booked into the jungle room for one week but after we viewed the room, we upgraded to a lower level, beachfront. The second story, jungle room had a palapa roof and yet did not have a mosquito net over the bed. We have stayed in rooms with a palapa before but there has always been a mosquito net. The palapa roof had lots of holes in it so lots of bugs could get in. It was a very windy night, which is not uncommon in Tulum, so we were very glad we moved. The beachfront room was quite a bit more money so we shortened our stay to five days. The room was very nice, large and spacious, with a good solid ceiling. The maids kept it spotless too. The location on Tulum beach could not have been better. The waves are not quite as big this far down the beach and not very many people either. Awesome beach! We would have liked a lock box in the room. It really takes the stress off. They offered to put our valuables in their house safe but we didn't fancy having to ask for our laptop every time we needed it. As it was we put our valuables in a suitcase and locked that with a lock we had brought with us. The lock on the door is a bit feeble too. It could easily be opened with a pen knife. A good deadbolt would have made us feel better. Tulum beach has an undercurrent of petty thievery and a lock box and deadbolt would really help with the relaxation factor. We didn't eat breakfast here but instead had a cooler with our own yogurt and fruit. We also walked up to Om for meals. Better food in town but Om is pretty good. We find the prices for hotels and food on Tulum beach to be really expensive so we expect excellence for the price. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case. It was our fourth time there in five years and we were not as impressed as in previous years. Feels like a bit of a rip off, and not very authentic. But it does have a great beach for long walks........

“Paradise for the travellers looking for privacy and quiet”

There are many hotels on Tulum Beach, some closer to the little center other after the security check point. This is very close to Sian Kaan gate so pretty far in but this is exactly what we were looking for; a quiet peace of Paradise. The rooms and the beds are so comfortable, the beach and the water so unbelievably clean white and turquoise. The hotel is unpretentious, welcoming, spacious, comfortable, private and beautifully decorated. No restaurant but a nice continental breakfast ... a restaurant would be pointless as there are several restaurants in the adjacent small hotels .... Next time in Tulum this is where we will go again.

Such a great place to be - most beautiful beach and nice people! The cabanas are spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help. La Via Laktea is an insider tipp for people who appreciate a particular kind of vacation - far away from mass tourism. No matter if you're on your own and just want to relax or if you want to spend some romantic holidays with your boy-/girlfriend. La Via Laktea will cast a spell on you anyway - at the latest when you lie in your hammock at night and watch the stars - you will see that the name captures the spirit of the programme. Highly recommended!

“Great Value on an Awesome Beach”

My husband and I stayed at La Via from 12/26-12/31. We ended up here based on random luck ww had waited until the last minute to book a hotel between christmas and new years and it was the first out of 30 we emailed that had availabiliy the entire time and did not cost more than 200 a night. We weren't sure what to expect but all my emails we responded to promptly. I paid in full online via paypal and we were able to get a nice upper jungle view room doe 135 a night. The owners speak great english and are there everyday and fairly available. The room has a big comfrotable bed and a batheroom and shower which we thought worked fine. This isn't the ritz but is totally clean and spacious. We had a big balcony with a hammock and there was electricity turned on from 5p-11p each night. They brought a large bottle of water and cleaned our room each day. There is a scooter on the porperty which you can rent which is probably a great way to explore a little although we did not use it. We did borrow their bokes one day but they are not the best bikes for long distances which is probably why they are free. Last but not least the beach is super awesome. I have been to alot of beaches and this one is by far the best. It stretches on for miles. You can lay on a beach chair they provide for free and the sand is white and the water is warm. It is basically next door to BE tulum and they charge $500 pluis a night for the same beach just better rooms. The only thing i would warn is there is no restaurant on site. They do serve breakfast for a small fee which is toast and a fruit parfait and coffee fine for a day or two but not for a week strait. We eventually ventured out in the morning and ate at BE tulum which was delicous and not too expensive like 300 pesos for two people. For lunch and dinner you are on your own although there are tons of restaurants close by. Most of them are in the surrounding hotels and we ate at a bunch most of which did take credit cards. La Via is a great B&B palapa on a quite part of beach a quick cab ride from town. The rooms are a great value and their location is wonderful.
