We got off the bus on the highway just in front of "Tulum Archeological Zone" looking at the Los Mopaches sign above the gate, which looked awful. I got scared. But when the door opened, we saw an old lady with a wonderful smile, who hugged us like an old friend and showed us her beautiful place. Cute wooden huts hidden among colorful trees and flowers, hammocks and comfortable chairs for great relax and atmosphere of “aunties home”, where you are more than welcome in worth the little high price (as for backpacker’s wallet – 220 peso/night in 4 bed dormitory). If that wasn’t convincing enough, we can add free bicycle (helmets, waistcoat and headlight), snorkel set for symbolic 10 peso/day, and the best breakfast in Mexico. Last but not least is the hospitality and eagerness to help, inform or explain of the whole family, which makes our stay there wonderful.
Be sure to visit (beside obviously beautiful Tulum ruins – 51 peso) amazing beach of Akumal, where you can swim with grande turtles and fabulous Yal-Ku Lagoon (great snorkel experience in mixed salt and sweet waters). We planned to stay in Los Mapaches just one day and we stayed there for three :)))))
