“White sand heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I spent a week there on a yoga retreat. Having never been to Tulum, I had no expectations, but this place was awesome. Roberto is an amazing host and he's surrounded by fabulous staff. The food was exceptional and the location is spectacular. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable and are right on the beach. The beach is perfect, beautiful white sand. I had a great week and would recommend yoga teachers for considering this location.

Room Tip: All the rooms are slightly different. The one that's upstairs has a spectacular outdoor shower.

“retreat at shambala petit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This lovely beach property has not only a FABOLOUS beach but a great vibe and an amazing staff. They will take care of you so all you have to do is to sip on fresh coconut water harvested in the "yard" and bask in the sunlight on the white sand. Mayan ruins and a coral reef are just a 10 min drive. And if you feel like practicing some yoga or meditate in the yoga room with the buddha statue at sundown it is your call.

“Calm Hotel gorgeous beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Stayed with a retreat, the rooms are small but clean. Food is creative, delicious, and vairied vegetarian. The staff is responsive without being intrusive. 2 Dogs on site are very well behaved. Goa and Enzo.
Roberto is a gentleman who is open to sharing tips for the area. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
The location on the beach is perfect, right in the middle you can walk south and see fewer and fewer people or north to little Tulum for some shopping.

Room Tip: The rooms on the left have baths, the one nearest the beach is the largest. The yoga studio is gorg...

“Very poor customer service”

Several friends had recommended Shambala Petit to me (although the rooms are TINY), so we were excited to be visiting Tulum and to finally have the chance to stay there. I emailed them several months in advance, requesting a room for the specified dates, and (after a week) received a reply, saying that there were rooms available, then a long description of the place, but no specific instructions of how to book or pay for the rooms. So of course I emailed them back (three times), asking to reserve the rooms and for payment instructions. Silence. For several weeks. I continued to email them, and finally received a reply, saying that there were no rooms available for the dates I had requested. They also wrote, "if you don’t reserve with time, there is the possibility we don’t have availability," This pissed me off, as I had tried to book in advance, and had been told there were rooms available, but never received any instructions or confirmation on how to reserve the rooms. Really annoying. And apparently this has happened to many other travelers, reading the reviews below. I'm sure it's a cute place, but this whole experience left me feeling really frustrated and disappointed. Shame on you, Shambala!

“Retreat Coordinator-Couldn't be Happier”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I coordinate Wellness and Writing Retreats with my husband Stephen Lloyd Webber (SummerWritingRetreat.com). We just ran a ten day retreat at Shambala Petit Hotel in Tulum--it was fantastic. I recommend this place whole-heartedly with no hesitations.

Roberto (the owner) is completely willing to work with you as a coordinator. As soon as we arrived we felt at home. "Anything is possible" Roberto said. And he delivered on that promise. If we needed anything he was more than happy to help. I have no complaints whatsoever and am already planning our next retreat on the property.

The place itself is beyond description. To wake up each day with the ocean swelling sound and the sunlight through the immaculate palm trees is heaven. Roberto's staff is clearly very happy and honestly delighted to be working there. It is refreshing to see such happy people working somewhere. We had a five year old come along on the retreat and Roberto's staff was amazing with her. Andy (a staff member) provided some child care and the little girl's belly laughs could be heard the whole time he was watching her.

The food is beyond belief and presented beautifully. I am vegetarian (no fish) and he was more than happy to provide equally delicious and beautiful foods for me. We had two gluten free participants and they too were treated to a delightful host of delicious and gorgeous foods everyday.

The grounds of the property are immaculate and beautifully tended and cared for. The dogs are loving and kind. There is a guard at night who is friendly and helpful. The rooms are fantastic. The daily housekeeping is very wonderful (they leave towels in different shapes on the beds and fresh flowers). They even comb the sand with a rake so it feels fluffy under your feet!

Nothing about the property or the staff feels contrived or false. You really feel that Roberto is as he says, "the keeper of the sacred land."

If you are considering holding a retreat or going on vacation at Shambala Petit--I would say to you: do it. You will never regret it.

Room Tip: The room that is upstairs is divine. As is the room closest to the beach.
