“My new favorite Tulum spot”

I'm writing this in the dining room at Hemingway's as a cute little rain shower has popped up. My friends and I have stayed in Tulum just shy of a dozen times. We usually stay at Azulik, but over the last few years, we have felt that property has fallen into some disrepair, although we always have enjoyed it.

We were a little hesitant to go to a new property, but I am really glad that we did. We love it here. The palapa is rustic like we like it. That isn't for everyone, but if you are trying to unplug as we want to do, it's perfect.

We enjoyed the on site massage and though we like to be slugs here the fact that Amansala and Maya Tulum offer yoga that we COULD do if we weren't REAL lazy is a nice option too. El Tabano across the way has a yummy avocado salad for a treat and Hemingway serves a nice complimentary breakfast and some really great coffee if you like cinnamon.

Tonight is reserved for Don Cafeto's grande margarita and mole enchiladas. However, with the find of this romantic property, we definitely found the whole enchilada.

“Serene, Romantic Oceanfront Gem !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We had a such a lovely time at Hemingway's during our holiday to Mexico. We stayed at the hotel for 8 nights. Wish it was longer !! The beach was beautiful and the establishment itself, is kept so clean. The beach "huts" /cabins, are "rustic" but lovely and romantic ! It's like spending time at the cottage on a beautiful tropical beach !
The maid Lucia was amazing and made sure we were kept comfortable in our room. Anything we needed within reason, she was more than willing to accomodate. Our room was always clean. Never saw one bug the whole stay. Not once. Also, everything was always left safe in the room. The hotel does offer 2 bottles of water per day in the room for consuming which was nice as you do need it in the heat there. Our bed was comfortable and always kept clean. No shower issues. It was so lovely to step out on our little porch in the morning and be right on the beach ! " Literally " !! The Oceanfront Huts are so great for the view. Melina the massage therapist is really good also !
The food was really good !! Nice light breakfasts were included in our stay that were nutritious and satisfying. It was nice sitting on the open deck at the restaurant in the morning having our breakfast. The wait staff " Swaad & Stephania were so amazing and made you feel like you were at home at your own table. They really made sure you were comforatble. Even the back kitchen staff were wonderful and so helpful. One night my husband wasn't well and they cooked up at special non-fancy plate of pasta for him to consume that wasn't even on the menu, no questions asked. The owner is also present off and on throughout the day as well and extremely friendly and interactive. Peaceful restaurant for breakfast & suppers. The restaurant is immaculate. I inadvertantly walked into the kitchen one day and was so amazed how clean it was even in the middle of the day. Very impressive ! The chef's are really good at what they do ! The pasta and desserts are very pleasing to the palate ! The menu is very limited but that was ok beacause it meant they put more effort into what they cooked up that day. The fresh Seafood & Pasta dishes were amazing ! We could have lived off of it ! And the view from the restaurant is stunning. The esatblishment is so quiet day or night. Nobody interferes with you. There are hammocks and beachbeds on the beach for lounging about and being lazy ! Very comfortable. Great little gem for the value. I was disappointed when I arrived to my next hotel after staying at Hemingway's. Our 2nd hotel was nice but nowhere near as inviting as Hemingway's ! We hope to make it back to Tulum next year and once again stay at our new found little gem !!
Thanks Hemingway's for a wonderful stress free stay !!

“paradise + amazing food = Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

This is such a special place, its a quiet, romantic, gorgeous piece of paradise set on your own beautiful powdery white sand beach framed in perfectly blue water. The staff at Hemingway is absolutely lovely, the cabanas are spacious. its the perfect place to unplug, get off the grid and synchronize with the sun. It is the antidote to busy city life and all that ails you... i loved living by candle light at night, and listening to the water as I fell asleep at night and waking up with the sun literally steps away from a refreshing morning swim. The location is out of this world, and when you add the fact that they have a quiet little restaurant on the beach that serves some of the best, freshest most delicious italian food ever... and a home cooked breakfast every morning. Beach+ great cabanas + gourmet italian food= HEMINGWAY IS HEAVEN on earth.

We've stayed at the most expensive eco-chic resorts in tulum.. but this is the only location we've chosen to repeat over and over and over again...
FYI - in this most beautiful part of Tulum none of the eco-chic-resorts have full time electricity its all wind and solar power and very limited. So your nights are romantically candle lit. The staff does graciously offer to charge your tech (why bring technology here???) at the restaurant if you need it.

a footnote on my review of italian food- (because not everyone can be trusted on food reviews) I live in NYC and have tons of very good italian food outside my door... my parents are both from italy and i'm well traveled in the homeland i've literally eaten my way thru the Naples, Bologna, Florence and small town italian farmland as well, the food at Hemingway is the REAL deal. Paola the owner is a lovely Italian woman who has kept true to simple, fresh, delicious italian food the way it should be and the chef adds the freshest catch of the day from just off the coast. I never expected the combination of incredible beach and amazing authentic italian food... and it keeps me dreaming about this place!

“Very nice again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

Second stay for us here at Hemingway. The beach front location is just to die for, so beautiful and romantic! Cabanas are rustic, but not too bad, just a little over priced for what they are, but the location is first class.

“Beachfront paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

My lady friend and I decided to make our way to Tulum to escape the madness of Cancun and Playa and relax on the beach. This is exactly what we were able to do with the help of Hemingway's great staff, accomodation, and location!

Immediately upon arrival we were greeted by Francesca (a very lovely, young Italian woman that spoke Spanish, Italian, and English very well). She met us out by the street and escorted us in when we arrived late in the evening on August 6th. It immediately set the tone for the whole trip. We had the fresh fish and sauteed vegetables in the restaurant that night and it was amazing. So light and full of flavor!

Our cabana, Jaguar, was right on the oceanfront. It was simple but very clean and definitely felt like home. We were literally 30 feet from the ocean and the huge mama sea turtles would visit our area each night to lay their eggs. Their was plenty to do and see in the area including the Tulum and Coba ruins and Xel-ha aquatic park was a lot of fun.

Francesca and the staff at Hemingway's is what made it special though. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was bread with a papaya marmalade and fresh fruit as well as a very tasty cinnamon coffee.

We will be back for sure!!!

BTW: Get a massage! Heidi said that it was the best that she ever has had!
