I spent several months researching where to stay on my first vacation to Mexico. After reading some reviews and looking at the website, I decided Cabanas Tulum looked like a good choice. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Alex and his wife Patricia and a glass of refreshing juice. We could not believe how this location was even more amazing than what we had seen online. We stayed in beachfront cabana #18 for 7 nights-it was very clean and comfortable. I actually counted my steps to the water from our cabana and it was 99 steps!!!
The restaurant and staff at El Bistro were also above and beyond excellent. The breakfasts included with our stay were delicious! There were a lot of Mexican dishes to choose from which were so delicious. The waiters and waitresses there really treated us like family. Pedro, Rosa, Emilio, and Ventura are the ones whose names I remember, but there were also other excellent ones too! I celebrated my 33rd birthday during our stay. That morning at breakfast, Pedro and Emilio brought me these little tequila drinks-HA! They were so funny! And then, they had the chef bring out this mango mousse dessert with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate in chocolate sauce-it was delicious. A bunch of them sang to me too! We were getting ready to leave the table when they brought down this fresh fruit fizzy punch-it was amazing! I was so overwhelmed by their kindness and sincere hospitality.
Another story I must share has to do with my brother needing some medical attention while we were there. We arrived on Sat 2/4. On Sun 2/5, we were having lunch at the ruins in Coba when a piece of my brother's filling/tooth fell out. By Wednesday evening, he was in so much pain, he knew he would not be able to sleep that night. We called our travel insurance company and found out that dental treatment would be covered for him. The company told us they would be in contact with a dentist close to us. In the meantime, I went down to the front desk to see what they could recommend. Alex recommended that we go into Playa del Carmen where they had more options. He went online and accessed the hospital in Playa del Carmen. I called them on Alex's cell phone and was given a cell number of a dentist that was on call that evening, so I called him. When he answered the phone, I was having some difficulty understanding his English with his accent. So, Alex actually spoke with the Dr. in Spanish and arranged the appointment for that night at 9 PM! He also gave us detailed directions on how to get there (it was about an hour's drive). If it wouldn't have been for Alex, I'm not sure what we would have done. We were so thankful. My brother ended up needing a root canal, but the dentist told him he could start it and then have it finished when he got back to the States. The dentist was state-of-the art. From that night on, my brother was pain free and was able to fully enjoy the remaining 3 days of his vacation! I share that story because I want to let everyone know that if you have something unfortunate like that happen, they will go out of their way to help you :). Thanks again Alex!! Oh-I must also say that Roberto, one of the workers there, was very helpful and friendly as well-great job!!
My brother and I have traveled to Central America several times before staying in about 7-8 other really nice hotels, but the level of care and service at Cabanas Tulum surpassed them all! Great job Cabanas Tulum and El Bistro, and THANKS SO MUCH for a most wonderful stay!
