“Quaint and friendly, but not doesn't quite justify the boutique price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

If you want a small, quiet, but friendly hideaway in the jungle then this fits the bill. Its on the Southern fringes off town but walkable into the centre, but you'll need transport to get to the beach. The facilities are simple but all you need; air-con, fan, clean room. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard where breakfast is served and each has a little veranda looking out onto the lush gardens. We didn't have any mosquito problems but maybe it was the time of year. There were a few ants in the room, but only to be expected given the setting. There's no TV, which was fine by us but an in-room fridge would have been nice and the WIFI is pretty hit and miss. Also the walled garden and trees make it a bit dark in the rooms. We also found that people often walked thru the gardens thus intruding on your privacy as they could look straight into your room.

The breakfast service was rather slow and we found it a bit unsubstantial (although you can order eggs for an extra charge) bread, jam, juice and the typically weak mexican coffee, sometimes some fruit.

But overall the experience is pretty good but I think it needs to do a bit more to justify the price and with these little niggles, falls just that bit short of excellent.

“Pretty Nice, but OverPriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here one night. We chose a room with two beds and a hammock-but only got a room with one bed and no hammock. The place was nice and clean. I loved the bathroom, but it seemed a little overpriced.

We stayed @ Don Diego de la Selva for just 2 nights, and it was wonderful! The room was clean the staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed was seriously firm. The quaint breakfast that was served was very good. Simple, (just toasted bread and jams, but yummy) Plenty of hot water, the patio was nice and quiet. The pool looked beautiful, but we didn't have time to take a dip. We had a rental car, but you could tour the city by bicycle or walking. The beaches are a short distance away and are beautiful! Our trip was to explore options for next year and we will be back.

“Peace, charm and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

What a great place! An easy walk away from downtown Tulum Pueblo, a perfect location. The entire staff delivers great service, and attention to details makes it a special place, so different from the other places in Playa.
Reasonable price, and the BEST restaurant in town with a very talented Mexican chef.

Room Tip: All rooms are good! Ask the staff for advice. discussions on email with the staff was very helpful

“Lovely and relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

My husband and I stayed here as a birthday getaway and it was great. The staff were kind and helpful (even when we locked ourselves out of the room AND out of our patio simultaneously--yikes). Also, as an allergy sufferer, I appreciated that everything was extremel clean and they seemed to take pride in that. The patio had an amazing hammock, and I didn't find it too buggy. The breakfast is simple, strong coffee, some kind of baked good that changes daily and toast with jams. We initially found the directions somewhat confusing. You have to drive *past* the vacant Subway storefront and just keep going a few more blocks before you get to the sign on the side of the road that says Don Diego de la Selva. The landscaping was fabulous. It really made it feel like your own hideaway. It is about 10 minutes drive from the beach, but a short walk from the main strip and all the cheap and delicious restaurants/taco stands there.
