“Beautiful Beach! Cool hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We checked into the Master Suite for a brief 3 day weekend in January, and it was just wonderful. The Mezzanine is a little bit quirky, a true Boutique Hotel, just a few rooms, a great restaurant and a wonderful location. Our room was beautifully decorated and a good size, with a wonderful ocean view. The main grounds of the property were lovely, a cute pool (mostly for decoration) and areas to lounge both at the hotel level and, a few steps down, on the superb beach. You have to put up with having the toilet and shower in the room, so I just went out on the terrace while my partner was busy there. It would be nice to have the bath partitioned off in a suite.

The restaurant was fantastic and probably the best part of the hotel! Breakfast was delicious, and we loved the thick banana pancakes and the open face omelet with sundried tomatoes. The Thai food for lunch and dinner was the best we've had in Mexico (we live in Mexico)...very authentic. Other options are available for lunch, like hamburgers and fish tacos. Unfortunately while we were there the restaurant closed down shortly after 10pm, so you were out of luck to sit out and enjoy drinks at night.

This hotel is remote, off a beautiful park area, so there the water is not drinkable, and the Internet service is sketchy. There are no TVs, and not much electricity (they don't allow hair dryers) so just lay back and relax and soak up the tranquility.

We saw the basic rooms and as they are under the hotel with very small windows, kind of dark, they didn't seem inviting, but they are much cheaper, nicely decorated, and you still have the run of the hotel. It's a good bargain option but if you can afford it at least get an Ocean view room.

Room Tip: Spend the money and get an Ocean View or Master Suite room.

Mezzanine has some of the best, oddly enough, Thai Food in Mexico. The place is just super relaxing and close to ruins.

“A little piece of heaven”

We stayed at Mezzanine for 6 days around New Years and I cannot say enough about this hotel. The concierge and staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is small, so the staff all know you and go out of their way to make sure you are doing well and are helpful when ever you have questions.

We stayed in an ocean front room and the view was gorgeous. The ocean view is breathtaking, especially when you get up early to see There is no a/c in the rooms, so we slept with the windows open and fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean. Some previous reviewers have mentioned the minimalist decoration of the rooms but it works in this peaceful break from reality. There are no TVs, which is exactly what we wanted and needed on this vacation. There is WiFi in the hotel, so if you want to check back in with the rest of the world you can. Every morning the staff puts a basket of coffee outside of your door. A previous reviewer complained about the size of the coffee, but I thought this touch was lovely.

The hotel is perfectly situatuated on the beach. It is near some rocks, so the crowds of people usually don't reach this part of the beach until later in the afternoon. The ocean is clear and the perfect temperature to swim in, even in December.

The bar and restaurant are also wonderful. The bar has a happy hour every day from 1-4 where you can get 2 for 1 margaritas which are delicious after a day on the beach. The food at Mezzanine is all very good. Every morning we woke up to breakfast of huevos rancheros and delicious banana pancakes. The smoothies are yummy and were a great way to start the day. Most days people from other resorts or hotels would be at Mezzanine to enjoy the breakfast and lunch/dinner menus.

If you want to head to town or to the restaurants down the beach, you can easily find a cab outside of the hotel. You can also walk down the beach to the Tulum Mayan Ruins.

I highly recommend this place to anyone!

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room with an ocean view!

“Paradise in Tulum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We spent 7 nights at Mezzanine in December. Beautiful property, nice location on the quieter, more remote, north end of Tulum Beach. The area to the south is where most of the boutique hotels, cabanas, and restaurants are located. Mezzanine is less than 5 minutes drive away and cabs are plentiful and cheap. You can even walk or ride a bike if you want.

The room we had was a lower level room around back as that was all that was available when we booked. Probably the least desirable room in the place but it was still perfectly fine. Super clean. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, sort of like a futon I think, but I did manage to sleep anyway. Might have been helped by the sound of the surf crashing on the beach outside... The bathroom facilities are in the same room with the bed separated by a curtain so privacy is non-existent. We just took turns in the room when necessary so it was really not an issue at all.

The hotel bar/restaurant was excellent (very good Thai food, very good cocktails) and the service the best we had anywhere in Tulum, and we had great service almost everywhere we went.

The beach out front of the hotel is amazing, so perfect. We checked out all the other hotels along the beach and there are so many really great ones, but Mezzanine has the best location on Tulum beach in our opinion. Overall we were very sad to leave and can't wait to get back and we'll go back to Mezzanine for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for a room out front facing the beach as opposed to the lower floor out back. But if all they ha...

“Perfect location - room design could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Beautiful hotel, very small and private with a great location on the beach. The room we booked was a bit dark (not ocean facing) and had an unusual design that the bathroom was open to the room, apart from curtain separators. Certainly not much privacy. I would recommend trying the ocean view rooms which have a loft-design - plus ocean views.

The Thai restaurant atop the hotel was fabulous, with amazing views of the ocean. If you stay somewhere else, be sure to stop by for a meal. If you're a foreigner and want a spicy dish, insist you can handle it. (the waiter took it upon himself to make my meal mild which was well intended though disappointing).

Note: no refridgerator, no TV in the room. Zen like Asian design.

Room Tip: Go for the ocean view!!
