Suenos Tulum was everything we had hoped for in a romantic, restful get-away. Our room overlooked the beach and the ocean, with a gorgeous view from our balcony and a very short walk to the beach. The restaurant cooks only for guests and the food is delicious, prepared to order, presented beautifully, and served by the absolute nicest of guys - Mateo - who takes such care with everything he does. Being "foodies" we were compelled to try several other of the local restaurants, but really didn't find anything that compared with the food here.
The room was beautiful, bed very comfortable, and the bathroom well-stocked with organic soaps, shampoos and lotions. We left our balcony door open at night and were lulled by the sounds of the waves.
Suenos Tulum is near the end of the beach road, an easy bike ride to the entrance of the Sian Ka'an preserve. The road is very quiet compared to closer to town where there is more "action." It was easy to walk or bike to other restaurants/bars up the road if we wished to do so.
The proprietors were lovely, amazing people who have put their hearts into creating Suenos Tulum. Everything has been constructed by hand using Mayan sensibilities and techniques, including making the paint colors from natural sources such as plants and insects. While we were there they were completing the second floor of a stone building, with local stone, and each stone raised up with a pulley and placed by hand. The wooden structures are made from regional hardwoods.
In summary, I would recommend Suenos Tulum for anyone who wants something special and different, along with peace, quiet, romance, beauty, and a meaningful connection with the place and people who created it. If you want to be in the "action" it might not be for you - the restaurant serves only guests and although they make great cocktails, there is no bar. It's truly a short drive to plenty of action, though. There were several roadside restaurants with late-night scenes, along with a really fun club for dancing - the Sand Bar - that were just minutes away.
