Lunch was expensive and not worth the price. I remembered this charming hotel from 2003. It is now beginning to feel like a transplant from Cancun. They have kept the sand floor in the dining room and the rooms are well done. For the price, you should get a lot more.

When I first reviewed Ana y Jose’s in 2010 I said “Pay the extra and stay here for the air conditioning”. Little did I know how much “extra” would be in just a few years. I e-mailed reservations last week to set up our weeklong trip in June as I had done the two previous years and was stunned to find that room prices had gone up 37% from the previous year. Not only had the price gone up, there are no more rental cars or airport transfer services. The airport transfer service was one of the things I really liked about Ana y Joses. It was a nice car waiting for you at the airport and it was included in the price. Our trip the previous two years had also include an hour long massage for my wife and I. Not anymore! You do get a free breakfast though. How thoughtful. Looks like we won’t be paying the extra this time. We’ll find some place else. Here is the response I got from them.

The hotel has many sold out weeks at the new rates, it seems that the prices will not be cheaper, they seem to increase even more in periods where occupancy is getting higher even in low seasons, due to the many weedding requests months in advance,

I stayed here in November of 2008. The rooms are beautiful and tranquil. The is no air conditioning so you you require that this isn't the place for you. Mosquitos are a little of a bother as well. You get a nice net around your bd, but they still sneak in. I would suggest one of the oceanfront private cottages. Those have a regular roof compared to the thatched. The food at the hotel is just okay. I would suggest some of the oth boutique hotels. They offer some amazing fresh local dishes. Zebras was great with great live music and the best margaritas. Do not opt to get a massage at night outside. You will get eatin alive! During the day your fine. In town there is some really good pizza a must try! Hope this helps some travelers.
