We have just returned to the UK after staying in Diamante K for 6 nights and have generally really positive things to say about the place. We had a great time. It was relaxing, it was fun and it was perfect for our needs- somewhere to sleep, change, shower, chat, drink and eat and swim all within ten metres. The setting was idyllic but if you got bored of palm trees and hammocks, you could walk to the other beach in 5 mins away.
It's a stunning location and not bad value compared to some of the other places. The bits of art and sculpture about the place made it inspiring in the sunrise moments.
However, on my return home, I realised that £150 cash had been taken out of my wallet, which was hidden in a drawer. It is such as shame because a- I can ill afford it, and b, we had such a great time and it makes me really sad to think someone stole from me.
We stayed initially in the Penthouse - there was a wonderful huge swinging bed- big enough for 3 swingers. However, as my friend and I don't sleep in the same bed, the lovely Thomas kindly put a second mattress down on the floor for us (the net didn't appear until the second night- by which it was too late as I had been eaten alive, and my presence announced to the entire Mexican mosquito population).
The staff, especially Thomas and Omar was just awesome. Great to chat to about everything from tattoos, to politics, to how to get to the ruins (20 min walk up the road) and day trips. It was generally really quiet but there are lots of locals who hang out in the bar- the local boat owner, a few residential artists etc. This made for a couple of mad boozy nights in the bar (if you are into that sort of thing). The majority of guests kept to themselves, until the weekend hit, and there was a good core group of us, hanging out. In particular, was Mario, the residential Barcelona chap who had bedded down for the winter months. Happy to share his tequila and smokes.
The rooms are basic. Nice designs, but basic. There are palm frond ceilings which leak really badly, when it rains (which was every day for us). After 3 days of heavy tropical storms, everything was damp, and there were pools of water all over the shop. Note, be careful where you place your electricals and fancy clothes. On the last night, we were moved to another room with 2 double fixed beds and it was pretty grim, with wet mattresses and mouldy palm fronds- it was in complete contrast with other other room which was really nice, so if you get a chance ask to see a room beforehand, or stay on the ground floor of a cabana.
The cabanas have no on-grid electricity, which means that there was only power for 6 hours in the eve. You can charge your phone etc in the bar during that time. It's too dark to read in the evening- so bring a head torch if you want to. There are loads of candles and lamps in the sand which made it very pretty though and romantic (if you are into that sort of thing).
We made a polite and firm point of asking for our room to be cleaned and for fresh towels every day, which was necessary because of all the sand. They replaced our mosquito nets instantly when I pointed out the holes in the ones around our beds.
We really loved it and had a great time. We laughed a lot and enjoyed lounging around and meeting people, and going into town for drinks and dinner. We think it is better to stay on the beach than in the town.
If you want to camp it out on the beach for a fair price, with gorgeous surroundings- then this is a great place to stay.
We will be back, I am sure.
