“Beach Club: beautiful location, great daybeds, slow service and horrible expensive food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We spent a day at the beach club. The beach is beautiful and daybeds for 150 pesos a great place to spend a lazy beach day.

The service is slow, however, and the food terrible and expensive. The burger was tasteless, the fries cold and the Cesar salad consisted of THREE salad leaves.

They also charge for each time you want to use the beach shower or the toilet.

“Beauty of white sands”

I took my family on a vacation to Playa Del Carmen and ended stay four days here instead. We received a tip from a local because we did not like the rough waters for our sons at our beach front hotel. My sons are 7, 4, and 2 at the time. I could not get over the beauty of this beach located right next to a local beach that was having a fishing tournament at the time. We loved the beds, food and the cold beer. What great service. They prepared food offf the menu for us and we tiped very well for it. I never go on tips but it made our trip the best beach we have ever been too with our kids. It can be a topless beach so be warned. My sons did not notice a thing even when my wife was topless. the whole place get high markes for just being a great place to relax. Snorkling was cheap, fishing was cheap. I think they were 35 to 50 and hour. I highly recommend this beach if you have small kids.

“Is this the perfect beach in the Caribbean?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We traveled with a large group of friends from our rental house in Akumal down to Tulum to check out the beaches and found Cabanas Paraiso. We parked in the large parking lot near the highway and took notice of the sign that said "No Coolers". I knew it would be a beach with bar service so I left my cooler in our van.

I have been to beaches all over the world. Australia, Fiji, Spain, Florida and all over the Caribbean and I have to say that this beach definitely ranks as one of my all time favorites. From the sandy parking lot you walk to the beach and are greeted by coconut palms and beautiful turquoise water. The sand is sugar white and very fine. The beach bar is there for your drinks and they had massage tables out with people enjoying massages. We were a party of 15 so they put the plastic tables and chairs together for us and we proceeded to order a variety of drinks including some tasty pino coladas. We all ordered lunch that varied from cheese burgers to fish tacos, to nachos. Everything was served in a timely manner and was pretty good all around. This place is great for watching tanned Latins and Europeans in skimpy bathing suits and several of the ladies in our group swore they saw Fabio. (or maybe his son!)

We did not go to the hotel or even look at it and other reviews have indicated it could use some work. It amazes me that some big group like Hyatt or Intercontinental has not snapped this beautiful piece of real estate up and put up a world class resort.

A great place for a day trip to the beach in Tulum.

“Absolute gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2011

Just returned from a 6-night stay at the Paraiso and highly recommend it. As others have noted, the beach is beyond spectacular. i found the room very clean and the bed very comfortable, and i am pretty picky about this. it is not artistic like some of the cabanas down the beach—just plain, functional rooms—but it had 2 huge pluses for me— (1) air conditioning, and (2) electricity at night. The ads say 24/7 electricity, but this is a bit of a stretch. It is off from 7 am-noon. Still, that's not when you need lights and so it wasn't a problem. In contrast to some of the other reviews, I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is a fruit plate, yogurt and toast. Always the same, but delicious.
The location is kind of remote from town and the hotel 'strip' of the beach, which was a plus for us because we had rented a car and so could get wherever we wanted, and this made it very quiet at night. The beach club/restaurant was not open during our stay. Apparently the Mexican government decided it's location is part of the ruins, and so shut this down. We didn't care because again, i think it made it quieter, but they are working on reopening it.
They do do day passes for people who just want to swim and use the beach, but didn't find this to be a problem. As a hotel guest you get a free beach lounge and there were always lots open.
We were very happy about our choice to stay here.

“Hotel El Paraiso Tulum - worst value in the Caribbean”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

We stayed 4 days at Hotel El Paraiso Tulum, located at a marvellous beach but the rooms have the view on the parking lot. Looks like any motel in America. The staff is not available after 19:00, we were left alone with a Columbian partying gang. Compared to the other cabanas next door it is completely overpriced, in our case 30% went to the agency MEXICAN CARIBBEAN without they doing anything. Breakfast is lousy considering the price, no fresh juice, no hot milk, no variety, no salt.... If you go to Tulum, pick one of the neighbouring hotels, the beaches are public, you choose the one you want to go to.
