“a Paradise in the Earth”

I've been in Playa Azul for my honeymoon, based on a friend's recommendation. It was excellent! If you want to relax, feel the nature, hear the sea, enjoy the beach and forget about the world, this is the place for you. If you want to live your holidays keeping standards, rhythm and facilities of your every-day-city-life... stay away from Tulum!! :) We stayed 5 days in cabana 2, then 5 more in cabana 21 - the suite. They are different but both wonderful! Lovely staff, good food (including fresh lobster), the best location. Thank you guys, it was an unforgettable experience!

Room Tip: suite 21 (with sea-front terrace) is the best and largest one, but living in first line cabanas is a...

“We'll defnitely be back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We just returned today from a 5 day stay at Playa Azul. We were in Cabin 12 and loved it. It seemed that we were the only ones that had privacy on our balcony - it's the jungle view, and not much of a view as the palm trees covered it, but still nice. I will admit that the staff does take very long to serve breakfast, and eventually we skipped the free breakfast, to avoid irritation (we found the prices, service and taste better elsewhere - but it's nice to have it on site!). The covered lounge chairs and beach area was perfect, the seaweed was always scraped and cleaned every morning...we don't drink but if we did, I think there should had been more staff - as it took us quite some time to get our ice cream we ordered from the bar. There is only one plug in the room, and it's in the bathroom, so no reading lights or anything. I would suggest bringing bug spray as the cabins are not "fully sealed." Note, that you can hear your neighbors if you're in the bathroom! We had no troubles with staff or theft, and for a quiet, relaxing time on the beach, it was definitely perfect. We rented a car, which I highly suggest, but they did have free wi-fi and bikes to rent. You could also get massages there too. I will say that their "superhero" is pretty interesting! We are very low key, and we really liked this place - we'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: We like our privacy, especially when relaxing in the hammock - #12 was perfect for that. There wasn...

“Disappointed and the theft!”

We are at the moment in the playa azul and we are very disappointed. The stuff is sloooow or there is not enough of stuff... For breakfast in the restaurant you lose 1,5 hour at least!!! 20 minutes for bill. I am not surprised that most of guests go to dinner somewhere else. Breakfast begins at 8am so if you have plans for ruins sightseeing you have to be aware of being in restaurant till 10am. Beach bar opens at 11.30 or 12 am?! The receptionist is so impersonal, when you check-in she recites the rules that you have feeling that you listens recorded rules on some tape... And about the manager of Playa Azul and Coco cabanas, no comment!
We had a problem, THEFT!!! The security guy was located next to cabana (10 metres away), he asked strange questions, where are you going… and in the same night, the I-pad and charger was gone from the room. From the LOCKED room and room was still locked when we came back. So only staff could do that! And the manager, she didn’t even try to solve the problem!!! So please don’t go to Playa Azul or Coco cabanas if you want to have pleasant holidays. We are third time in Mexico but we haven’t been ever at worst place!!! NEVER worth of 100-200$ per night.

Hi Marjeta, like we told you at the hotel we don't like to be threatened saying you will destroy us on tripadvisor, to get money from us. It's really sad to see all you wrote here after all we try to do for you and your brother.
About our security staff and security standars, we are 100% with all the team, even if costumers leave their rooms open many times during the day, (even when we say not to do it because it's and open space in front of the beach) , we never have any problems with robbery’s or stolen objects, but we can’t control what people do while they get to drunk and lost during the night! We are happy you are not our regular client at all.

“Swept Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

This is our second trip to the Tulum beach area, our first overnight stay. The hotel bills itself as an Eco-resort, and there's minimal night time power. You get the notion that they depend on their wind turbine, but there's a propane generator off behind the parking area. Unfortunately the generator kicking on, recharging the batteries, then off, kept my wife up. Its a deep grumble that takes some getting used to. The wind blew like a banshee, but it didn't drown out the grumbling.
Other than this, everything else about Playa Azul was perfect. We had a second floor room, jungle view, with mosquito netting, and a back porch with hammock. My wife loved it. The shower is sort of outdoor - there's a roof over it - and the water comes out of a perforated bamboo 'shower head'. This is definately someone's interpretation of a jungle waterfall type shower. Beware - its minimal pressure, but warm enough.
Food at the restaurant is amazing. It takes a little while to come out of the kitchen - but its worth the wait. The included breakfast was great, wonderfully fresh fruit. The shrimp tacos were outstanding. The tropical salsa was almost the equal of the spicy shrimp. Happy, friendly, helpful staff.
Then your right there on the beach, lots of palapas and beach chairs. Miles of beautiful sand to walk along in the tideline. Amazing turquiose water with lots of breakers.
A definate gem on the Tulum coast.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms get the breeze - jungle view or beach view - both are excellant.

“Loved it..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

The beach was very nice, the rooms different from each other and special in their way. We had a leakage in our room and got the best room of the hotel in change, without extra charge. We woke up to the panorama view of the sunrise every morning. The breakfast was very good with fresh fruit, homemade jam, croissants and juice. The rest of the food in the restaurant was okay too. The staff was friendly and helpful. Free drinking water in the reception a plus. I recommend this place, very peaceful, all you here is the sounds of the waves. Only negative is that the rooms wasn't windproof, when it was colder and more windy the room got cold at night, and opposite hot when hot outside. The room we had last had a fan, but the first didnt.
We loved Tulum :)
