“fantastic resort”

I,ve been at this resort after my travel agent told me it was an amazing deal that I shouldn't let go. We were 4 adult, the resort is fabulous, clean and staff is always ready to help or please you. Our room was a junior suite swim up, that was so great, and we loved it, it was an easy acess to the pool and the pool back to our room. The maid was so great to us through our week I gave her in total for tips, 15$. We never ran out of towels or whats so ever. The pool was very clean, it's so big all together. The Beach: in front of our resort the beach was beautiful, no rocks or weed, very nice sand. The only complaint I would say about the beach would be: It was too crowdy, we couldn't walk through the chairs to go to the beach. So Us we
would go to the far right of our resort and there was the Private Beach, We had to pay 10$ each to spend the day but the service was amazing. We had our private Barman, he would bring us drinks ans little canopys, all through the day. Our chairs were bigger with a mattress on top, the towels were like blankets, and it felt like as if we were alone, the front beach the sand was powered it was great....This year I was planning to go there again but finally we've change our plan cause our 4 kids are coming with us, so our budget has change. Last year we came down here for 1280.00$ each, this year it went up to 1700-1800$ each. So with our kids it was a bit to much, but I'm sure I'll be back......

Room Tip: If you book a swim up, stay on the Sunset side because the sun is direct to this side all day ans on...

My husband and I just returned home from a 14 day vacation at the Grand Sunset princess. We stayed on the riveria side *platinum (yucatan- adults only ) we loved every second of our stay . The staff are great they treat you like royalty, If you are planing on going pay the extra to get platinum it so worth it .the food is good not great but then again we live in BC and are spoiled with the food we have avalible here. Alot of the people we spoke with enjoyed the food so maybe we are just a lil picky lol . this resort is huge takes a few days to find your way around .If you dont like to walk there is a golf cart to take you where you need to go ! the only thing I didnt like is the late night room service not a good selection :( this resort is spotless . all the staff take care of your every need . we love this resort and will return next year with our children . we felt safe and very welcome at all times a few staff members really take care of you and make you feel at home .Grace (platinum lounge concierge ) Vera/Veronica( platinum lounge waitress) Patty (live music lounge waitress) ....... “Third trip in a row to this resort and still love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Just returned from the GSP after spending 2 glorious weeks there. Staff is beyond amazing here...they go above and beyond everyone included! Stayed in a junior deluxe suite again and the room was great......cleaned perfectly every day!
One review said that the marble floors are slippery...that I do agree with and I am not sure that there is anything that can be done but if it rains WALK VERY CAREFULLY!!!
My only disappointment (if this is one) is the beach front where the vendors seem to be taking over. Actulaly the fellow who rents the beach front loungers...I hope he gets paid by the hour and not commission..he is taking up valued beach front space, shows up late and leaves early and his chairs remain empty...in 2 weeks he rented 2 one day and then 4 on the last day we were there, at a rate of $5 a chair...really?????
I thnk as guests of the resort we have paid enough money for our trip and going to the beach is a BIG part of that, so the hotel should perhaps look into not allowing chair rentals on the beach. Burgers on the beach are yummy and a great change from the lunch buffet (which is also yummy by the way)

Entertainment is awesome, great music, animation team does a great performance every night and the market is a great hit on Thursday.

See you next year!!

PS everyone that says the beach is rocky it probably is in certain areas but there is a HUGE sandbar...look for all the people and you can walk a long ways out without hurting your feet, or just pack water shoes ( this is not the resorts fault, Mother Nature is to blame I suppose)

Room Tip: Ask for building 3 or 6...those being in the middle of the resort

“Nice resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The resort is beautiful and the staff works hard to keep it exceptionally clean and maintained. That also means though that out of our 14 days here....13 of them we listened to some sort of construction.
It would have been nice to see more seating for people here too. They have the lobby bar and a sports bar....both quite noisy but really no quiet places with chairs and tables.
They also had swimming pool issues in one of the pools and the filtrations system was down for the last 4 days we were there, might still be down. I wouldn't consider that a safe thing with all the people doing who knows what in those pools. They never did tell people to stay out of the pool though.
The food definately does become monotonous in the buffet....although there were some superb cuts of beef there. I always look forward to many different kinds of fish at these resorts and it was the same white fish daily.....usually cooked exactly the same. We found it odd too that a 5 star resort that caters to Canadians did not have bacon available every day.
My biggest complaint though would have to be the lounge chairs, I don't know who designed them but they have to be the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat/laid on. If you have room in your suitcase bring an inflatable lounger and use it on your chair.
All the alacartes we went to were good.
The staff is friendly and tries very hard to make your stay pleasant.
our group of 6 would not return here.

Room Tip: We were in the 2000 block and you are right about in the middle of the action, so not to far to walk...

“Grand Yukatan Suite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Booked a grand yukatan "platinum" suite through Flight Centre. Read on here that the Yukatan was not actually platinum suites in terms of the room, but it was in its own adults only building and had access to all the platinum privileges. We requested a king size bed through Flight Centre. They made a lot of claims about "going to work for us" and getting upgrades, requests, etc once we purchased a trip... They did nothing, put in a request apparently for a king. We ended up with a two double beds. Wasn't a big deal, didn't care enough to request anything different. Room was nice, clean, restocked and cleaned every morning around 10am. No weird smell as others mentioned. Being near the lobby was nice. Easy walk to the beach. It's a joke how close it is. If you can walk up a staircase without passing out, you'll be fine...the walk is nice. Beach was nice, crowded, good swimming...a bit rocky going in, but if you don't sprint in with your eyes closed then it is perfectly acceptable. Excursions are a huge ripoff...go on your own (Akumal: take the collectivo and get off at Akumal and walk 6 minutes to the beach) Sun Wing is a bit of a joke with scheduling, would suggest a different airline and trip provider (West Jet and Air Canada fly there from Canada). Food was good...the buffet has everything, nothing fancy, but stick with Mexican food and its great. A la Cartes are hit or miss. Bars are great. Corona on tap. Tons of booze, frozen drinks are from a mix, but are refreshing. Service is great. Concierge is dedicated to sending you to your trip provider for excursions and day trips...so research on your own. Do Akumal, Coba, and Playa. Snorkeling excursion was great through sun wing...but going to Akumal on your own is an eighth of the price, more fun, and go to the same spots. Would I return? With a big group yes, with girlfriend no. Would probably look for something with a nicer beach, better food, more of a "true" five star, and by a bit more...haven't done this enough to tell if its price is appropriate. Hope it helps, msg me for super delayed responses.

Room Tip: Yukatan is good for a quiet spot, but rooms aren't anything special. Platinum stuff is nice to h...
