“Well worth the money”

We went to this AI resort for our honeymoon in March of 2011 and we can't wait to go back.
Just about everything about the place is fantastic.

Beach - The beach is very clean and free of rocks with a bar and wait staff right on the sand. It is a little understaffed during busy times but I never minded since the bar was so close I could just walk up.

Rooms: We had one of the golden jr suites with the king bed and it was fantastic. The entire room was tiled so bring some slip ons for late night bathroom breaks. The jacuzzi was very nice and we used it at least 4 times during our week. The bed was extremely comfortable with a memory foam topper and silky bedding.

Staff - Everyone is friendly and courteous to your needs. They give you champagne and a golf cart tour when you arrive and quickly get you to your room. We never had bad service anywhere we went on site.

Food - Just about all the restaurants are fantastic. The only exception for us was the steak house. They simply didn't cook either of our steaks correctly.
Best breakfast: The restaurant right next to the beach has the best breakfast. Try their french toast and omelettes.
Best lunch: So this is very biased opinion since we never left the beach but the same restaurant for breakfast is also the best for lunch. Their fresh made tacos are to die for and the guacamole is amazing.
Best dinner: The highlight was the french restaurant where I had a fantastic duck plate and it has a very romantic decor. The Ichiban show at the japanese restaurant is worth the wait as well ( there always is one).

Drink: You have to ask for good booze when you get mixed drinks but anything I asked for was quickly provided and mixed well. Don't expect fresh mixers as everything come in those sugary, premade bottles you can buy at the grocery store but if you are ok with that then everything is great. And you can't go wrong with some beer.

Shows: We only saw the fire show and the broadway show but both were good fun. The fire show especially was great fun and the accompanying outdoor buffet was delicious.

Other stuff: Twice a week local shops fill the main plaza and sell souvenirs. This is the typical swap meet/mexican street experience where you barter for everything. We got some cheap bracelets for the family and weren't disappointed. Also, every day they have little activities around the resort for you to enjoy. I played beach volleyball before lunch and horseshoes before dinner almost every day.

Special end of review tip: If you can afford it at all, pay for the privilege package. You get some nice alcohol and snacks for you room but the best part is a personal palapa on the beach and chairs next to the pool. The towel game looks to be in full effect here but with your name on your own chairs you will never have to play it. We literally spent all of our days under our palapa looking at the ocean, drinking, and reading books.

Room Tip: Golden Jr suites are nice but really the resort is the star here. Any room that gets you in is nice...

“Fabulous Place we will definitely return”

My husband and I and our two adult sons loved this place.! The grounds were beautiful. We stayed in an emerald suite on the ocean, building 14, which we would highly recommend, on the second floor. You can't see the ocean from the first floor. This building is steps from the beach and the pool and 2 of the restaurants, one of which serves breakfast. A perfect location. Very quiet.
The restaurants were all good but our favorites were the French(get the mushroom coquette), the Japanese(the fried rice was to die for), and the Italian (great risotto).
Everything was very clean and beautiful. The service was great in the restuarants and the pool. The staff cleaning the room sometimes didn't understand us but always tried to please us.
The drinks were strong and they had a great selection of liquor. Our only issue was that there were several loud and drunk people all the time. The pool area is divided into Activites and quiet so if you stay on the quiet side they won't bother you!!
We were very pleased with the trip and would definitely return.

We love Adult only....Just returned from 4 nights at Valentin Imperial Maya. It did not dissapoint... Resort / Landscaping beautiful. Beach great. Drink service on beach so you never have to leave your chair. No rocks in water and has soft sand (in swim area) Rooms nice/Spacious. No need to upgrade. (Cant see ocean from oceanfront rooms anyway) We were in Bldg 5 close to breakfast and beach. Loved the cappachinos, Food good. We eat early (6:30 or 7) so never had to wait for table. Ate at Italian, French, Japenese, and did room service one night. Service was always good and staff great. Hotel photographer took great pictures of us on beach one day (prices reasonable) Resort not as good/Fancy as Iberostar Grand where we stayed last February, but we got a great deal and for the money it is Awesome. Hope to go back some day!

“Fabulous 2nd Honeymoon”

We never wanted to leave! This was like a second honeymoon for us as we celebrated our 15th anniversary. With two young children at home, we wanted an adults only and certain "extras" from what we normally look for. We booked one of the Diamond privilege suites. AMAZING! Truly the entire week felt magical. Absolutely everything was perfect and staff were friendly and did everything possible to ensure you enjoyed your stay. The grounds are beautiful and amazingly well kept. We never thought the walk was a problem like so many seem to complain about - first you sit or lounge so much, not too mention all the wonderful food and drinks, the walk was a good thing! Also, we found particularly in the evening there always seemed to be shuttles running that offered you a ride. It amazed us that there is anyone who finds anything to complain about.
I could not possibly say enough about this resort, but to say we would go back anytime! And just to note, that while the "upgrade" this time was perfect for the occasion, we would likely not bother with an upgrade again for just a regular holiday. From what we saw and heard even the standard rooms are more than adequate and the service was excellent regardless. You will not regret going to the VIM!!

“Nice resort, BUT be careful checking out!! Be sure you know your pesos/US dollars.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My husband and I have been to the Riviera Maya numerous times, however, this is our 3rd adult only. We traveled from Jan 29- Feb 2. This is a nice resort, the room was really nice and always clean, staff was nice and the food was good. Room service food wasn't that great. Our favorite retaurants were the Japanese and the Steak (strip steak was amazing & service was excellent) for dinner. The ala carte restaurant buy the beach for lunch was great.
When we booked the trip 9 months ago, we were told that we would be close to everything (I don't know how that is possible b/c the resort is so big) and that our rooms would be close together (my sister and her boyfriend traveled w/us). We were in building 8, which was a long walk to everything so we would sometimes call for a golf cart to pick us up. And my sister's room was on the same floor, but at the opposite end- not too bad. We had a long walk to the buffet restaurant, beach and main pool. There was a small pool behind our building, we could see from the room. There was a bar nearby @ that pool so that wasn't too bad. Keep in mind- when we booked the trip- we upgraded so we were the next level up from the basic room- the travel agent said those rooms aren't nice at all.
Ivan was the Apple Vacations rep. I've been thru this before. You have to meet him when you get there and he tells you to come back the next day to confirm the date/time for pick up back to the airport. Then he goes into his spiel about excursions. I told him I wasn't interested, I have been on many excursuions on past trips, this trip I just wanted to hang at the resort and relax. He said "no offense but what if I came to your country just to see the snow, I am not learning anything about your country". At that point, I got up iand left. I think he didn't like me from that point on. Fast forward to check out. We had to be in the lobby at 8:05. My husband called for a ride/bell boy and no one came. So at 7:30, we WALKED with our luggage all the way to check out. I told Neftali that I wanted to pay $60 cash and $70 on my debit card (total spa services were $130 US dollars). He took the cash and put 1140 pesos on my card and told me "that is about $70". We walked away and I showed my husband the receipt and he immediately went back to Neftali and said it wasn't right. He didn't want to make eye contact and acted flustered. He was totally confused b/c he was busted. Turns out, he put $90 on my debit card instead of $70, so he was going to pocket $20 of the cash I gave him. So 90 + 40 (cash left after he took 20) =130. So I had him cancel my debit card transaction & got a receipt for it, and just paid him cash. While my husband was arguing with Neftali, Ivan the Apple rep walked by and I asked him to make sure our ride doesn't leave b/c they messed up my card. He walked out and came back and said "your ride is here but I dont know of he will leave you" and shrugged his shoulders- I paid for private transportation so I said well you are paying for a taxi if they do leave. Luckily we didnt miss our ride. My sister and her bf stayed for 7 days. When she called home, I told her what happened and to watch how they charge during check out. The day she went to confirm her pick up time, Ivan the Apple rep told her "don't be late like your sister was she almost missed her ride" and my sister said it wasn't her fault. He said "yes it was" and made up a story. THEY ARE SO SNEAKY. I WONDER HOW MANY UNSUSPECTING PEOPLE THEY DO THIS TO THAT NEVER NOTICE B/C THEY ASSUME THEY ARE BEING BILLED THE CORRECT AMOUNTS OR THEY ARE IN A HURRY TO CHECK OUT SO THEY DON'T MISS THEIR RIDE TO THE AIRPORT. I always tip the staff at the resorts even though I don't have to, so this ticked me off. I won't stay here again. And I will be making a complaint to Apple as well. I considered not using them again, but they are the only company that has charter flights. It's sad b/c this can happen at any resort I guess.
I probably won't stay here again. Next time, I'm going to go back to The Excellence or The Royal.
Oh, and by the way, look out for ants if room service makes a towel animal and puts a flower on it. (They never did this in my room). They did this in my sister's room and there were ants all over the bed spread.
