We went to this AI resort for our honeymoon in March of 2011 and we can't wait to go back.
Just about everything about the place is fantastic.
Beach - The beach is very clean and free of rocks with a bar and wait staff right on the sand. It is a little understaffed during busy times but I never minded since the bar was so close I could just walk up.
Rooms: We had one of the golden jr suites with the king bed and it was fantastic. The entire room was tiled so bring some slip ons for late night bathroom breaks. The jacuzzi was very nice and we used it at least 4 times during our week. The bed was extremely comfortable with a memory foam topper and silky bedding.
Staff - Everyone is friendly and courteous to your needs. They give you champagne and a golf cart tour when you arrive and quickly get you to your room. We never had bad service anywhere we went on site.
Food - Just about all the restaurants are fantastic. The only exception for us was the steak house. They simply didn't cook either of our steaks correctly.
Best breakfast: The restaurant right next to the beach has the best breakfast. Try their french toast and omelettes.
Best lunch: So this is very biased opinion since we never left the beach but the same restaurant for breakfast is also the best for lunch. Their fresh made tacos are to die for and the guacamole is amazing.
Best dinner: The highlight was the french restaurant where I had a fantastic duck plate and it has a very romantic decor. The Ichiban show at the japanese restaurant is worth the wait as well ( there always is one).
Drink: You have to ask for good booze when you get mixed drinks but anything I asked for was quickly provided and mixed well. Don't expect fresh mixers as everything come in those sugary, premade bottles you can buy at the grocery store but if you are ok with that then everything is great. And you can't go wrong with some beer.
Shows: We only saw the fire show and the broadway show but both were good fun. The fire show especially was great fun and the accompanying outdoor buffet was delicious.
Other stuff: Twice a week local shops fill the main plaza and sell souvenirs. This is the typical swap meet/mexican street experience where you barter for everything. We got some cheap bracelets for the family and weren't disappointed. Also, every day they have little activities around the resort for you to enjoy. I played beach volleyball before lunch and horseshoes before dinner almost every day.
Special end of review tip: If you can afford it at all, pay for the privilege package. You get some nice alcohol and snacks for you room but the best part is a personal palapa on the beach and chairs next to the pool. The towel game looks to be in full effect here but with your name on your own chairs you will never have to play it. We literally spent all of our days under our palapa looking at the ocean, drinking, and reading books.
