“Worth the 12-hour-flight !”

We wanted to catch some sun for a week in this grey, boring Dutch winter and this was worth the trip! Perfect location, very close to the white beach and busy center. The rooms are very clean, spaceous, practical, great shower! This hotel is value for money for sure! The staff is very friendly though not everyone speaks English that well. The breakfast nextdoor is quite allright but take some more time and have breakfast on the beach at club Indigo (you have to pay a small addition), the beds and umbrella are for free every day if you're a Blue Magic guest, great arrangement! We had a lovely, lazy week at this cute, special hotel. Quite a 'catch' between the massive all-inclusive resorts, especially for this price. One tip, really ask for a roomnumber higher than 14. The rooms 1-14 (right side of the pool) are really too close to the Coco-Bongo-street, too noisy. The top-rooms are lovely by the way (an attic-feel), but the groundfloor is much less noisier. After we complained about the nightly noise, we got a perfect quiet room immediately! Have no doubt, you'll have fun here; great pool as well! Compliments to the Dutch manager!;-)

“a lush oasis...”

Magic Blue is like a slice of paradise. Each time we entered the resort, day or night, I literally sighed... it's calm and lush; a nice retreat from all of the activity and hustle of Playa.
The location is good; steps away from restaurants, clubs, and 3 blocks from the beach. However, the drawback of the location is the night-time noise. We first had a room towards the front [10th Ave], near the Coco Bongo club. Factor in the thatched roof [top floors only], and it's noisy. We had ear plugs and managed to sleep okay, but were curious about switching rooms. The front desk was VERY accommodating; showing us 2 other rooms, and we immediately moved to one at the rear of the property, on the top floor. This area gets some noise from street traffic and church bells, but it's much better... no Coco Bongo noise!
Minor noise issues aside, the thatched-roof rooms are fantastic, and the ambiance is worth it. Both of our rooms were very spacious, and very clean. The rooms have updated, modern fixtures; and it works well to have the vanity separate from the WC/shower. In our second room, the vanity lights were dim and the fridge wasn't cold -- again, the great staff had those issues fixed immediately. We always found the staff to be available and accommodating.
Breakfast is complimentary at the restaurant next door. Overall, it's very good. There is also the restaurant on the corner, just up from the lobby. It's good for a beer and tacos, and tends to be more of a night spot. If you want a delicious, cheap lunch, go to the little 'traditional' Mexican place on the corner, across the street -- it's excellent.
The only other drawback I found with the hotel was it's bar. Usually boutique hotels have a bit more of a 'scene' at the pool bar... meaning at least good chill music, and a fun/social bartender. The bar has a TV playing constantly, which I assume is to entertain the bartender. I think tweaking that scene [without making it noisy or annoying] would help make the pool area a better place to hang out.

“A wonderful Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

This little gem is an older hotel that has been completely refurbished and updated. With land so expensive in Playa, it is rare to find a large inner courtyard with a nice pool and bar surrounded by rooms. This is my fifth winter in the Yucatan and I move around a lot, but this is only the second hotel I have positively reviewed in Playa in five years. It deserves it. Staff is polite and professional, amenities are complete and as represented on it's website, and although it's near the nightclub area there is no problem with loud noise. All in all, it's a great deal and they are getting harder to find in Playa. Stay here. You won't regret it. Jim McConchie, Concord, Massachusetts

“Great Staff!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Upon our arrival we were given a room according to our previous requests when booking the our trip. The room was very clean, lost of space, could be better furnished but overall it was ok. We had a problem with the shower which we reported to the front desk, they immediately sent someone to install a new shower!! The staff was very helpful always......The hotel has a great beach club just a few blocks away from the hotel, it also has complimentary parking a block away, which is very useful if you rent a car. The location is terrific, although it is located near some nightclubs, the rooms are very quiet. We had a great time in PDC and at the Magic Blue, will definitely recommend this Hotel.
