“Great non-resort option and be in the middle of all the action”

We decided in staying with Magic Blue after deliberating between Magic Blue and Mosquito. Reasons why we picked Magic Blue was its location and not being to close to all the clubs near the beach.
PLUSES: The room and bathroom was clean and comfortable with all the common amenities you may need. Ample amount of clean towels, soaps and shampoo. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Free Breakfast Buffet at the restaurant next door (Good food). Free Access to 2 beach clubs. Walking distance to everything.
MINUSES: If you are staying in one of the lower floor rooms, just hope no one in stilettos paces above you. On our final night at the hotel, someone kept pacing in stilettos which got very annoying. The hotel should consider rugs for the upstairs rooms. The beaches where you have beach club access is pretty...but you can't really swim in it since its full of fishing boats, but if you're just there to lay out in the sun and have some drinks, its okay. It just would have been nice to be able to cool off in the water.
Overall, I would recommend Magic Blue to friends and family who are looking to stay in PCD and not in an all-inclusive resort.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the upper floor away from the front of the hotel

“Nice Room - shame about the noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I booked this Hotel after reviewing many in Playa del Carmen. We have stayed in town several times before and always like to try new places. After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, i emailed to ask the Hotel if they could situate us in a quiet room away from the nearby nightclub noise as we did not want to be disturbed. Upon arrival we were shown to a second floor room - very nice. Clean, thatch roof, large bed, balcony. The room did not seem too noisy during the day, but when we returned from dinner that evening, the road noise was very loud and there were people shouting, dogs barking and lorries thundering past. We did not sleep at all well and were woken at around 6am when the road noise started up again. We thought about asking to move rooms the next day, but since we were only staying 2 nights we couldnt be bothered to move all our stuff. The hotel takes up an entire block so is surrounded on all sides by roads. But i think our position at the back of the Hotel was closest to the busiest road. I am not sure any room here would be completely quiet, but i think there are better positions than the one we were in.

Another problem is the lighting in the room. I think they are trying to create 'moody lighting' but in fact it is just very dark - the only lights being 2 bedside lights and 2 lights either side of the sink in the bedroom. I struggled to find anything in my suitcase in such dim light.

We have our own business and need internet access 24/7 so chose this Hotel as it advertised WIFI. When we checked in we were told it was unavailable and wouldnt be available until the next day. Another inconvenience as we had to go straight out and find a cafe with WIFI to check on things. The WIFI did not work on either night of our stay here.

The Beach club is included in the price of the room which is a nice bonus, however the chairs were pretty full with their own Hotel guests by the time we got there and the music again is very loud. Chairs are very close together so very little privacy. Service was slow.

Final grumble is the extra charge for the room safe. After telling us the internet was unavailable we thought it might be nice if they offered this service for free like most other Hotels do, but they didnt.

Overall, i think the rooms at the Hotel are nice, breakfast is fine and the location for 5th Avenue and the beach is good. Perhaps if you are here to party all night and can sleep through loud noise you will like this place, but next time we will go back to Mosquito Beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room! Not right at the back of the Hotel.

“Nice average Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Me and my wife spent two nights in this hotel.
The location is good and the bedroom was confortable. The service is almost inexistant and it was not the best hotel during our trip in the Yucatan peninsula. Neverless, the garden and the pool side are very nice and I recomand this hotel ,you get what you pay for the money.

“Wonderful hotel! - centered and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I stayed there with my girlfriend.
Everything was so good!
At first we were accommodated in a noisy room, where we could not sleep, but after one night they moved us to another room and the problem was solved.

The hotel is beautiful and the service is perfect!
The hotel is located next to the coco bongo club and in the middle of the fifth ave.- which is the center of the touristic zone of playa!

The price was not that expensive and if you book through the hotel website- you get a better price!

Room Tip: book through the hotel website- you usually will get a better price then "on the spot"!
