I booked the Hotel Cielo because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor but unfortunately the hotel did not live up to its billing. Problems included the following:
-I paid for a queen but got a double bed.
-the hot water in the shower was undependable.
-the only piece of furniture in the room besides the bed was one small chair.
-the TV reception was fuzzy and the screen microscopically small
-the WIFI did not work in the room.
This is a very mediocre hotel and it does not come close to justifying the prices they charge!

Thank you sluffer for taking the time to write your review. Please understand, your problem is not with us, unfortunately you booked through Expedia & had requested for queen size which had not been passed on to us, in addition, there are no price differences from a full size to queen & we would have gladly changed your room but we were full.
We know you were upset & understand your frustration, but it shouldn't be taken out on us & since you have , I would like to address your "other" complaints, no other guests or even your self have brought these issues to our attention & I am quite sure if they existed, it would of been mentioned in other reviews, especially since we were full.
We know you are on vacation, we genuinely feel bad that you did not enjoy your stay with us & are sorry about the TV it is a little small but our new LEDs have been delayed but are on the way.
Also here is the a copy of Expedia's policy as well. Note: All special requests (such as in-room amenities, bed type, and smoking preference) are shared with the hotel. We recommend you confirm them directly with the hotel before travel.
Note: special request (e.g.wheelchair access, late check in etc). We will pass your request to the hotel, but requests are not guaranteed and may incur additional charges.
We hope you feel differently decide to put your frustration aside &, re adjust your review to a more accurate rating. Thank you

“The most comfortable hotel we found!”
The owner was standing at the desk when we arrived, travel weary, just looking for a comfortable bed after so many hard, old, worn out one's in other hotels. I also wanted a beautiful place, and this hotel really filled the bill. It is truly beautiful, with lots of details that are really special, all Mexican hand painted tile throughout, beautiful hand painted sinks, and a fantastic roof top patio for romantic evenings. We only stayed two nights, and the staff was exceptional, very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is also great. We'll definitely go back! The location is quiet enough for this area, and it's one block to the most beautiful beach I've ever seen....
Room Tip: We stayed up on room 25 - very quiet and private, just perfect for sleeping...

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay & that you were able to experience our warmth & charm that Cielo has to offer. Thank you for noticing the details, while many other hotels are going with a cold modern style, we are staying true to the warm Mexican hacienda feel...after all we are in Mexico. The staff were so happy to hear them being mentioned as exceptional & they have been working diligently to achieve this, we are all so proud. Lovejoy, we know there are many Hotels in Playa Del Carmen, so thank you for choosing Hotel Cielo & we look forward to seeing you when you return to the beautiful Mayan Riviera. Love, love, love this place.
We stayed here one night on a 3night visit to Mexico, (teary eyed that we didnt stay longer) and had such a great experience. Its so close to the beach, the rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable.. We just love the traditional mexican feel to the place.. Watch out for the crazy stairs, they can be tricky after 1 or 2 margaritas. Cant wait to come back & stay here again..
Room Tip: Ask for room 28.. It has a great view

It is fantastic that you felt our warmth & charm, we especially love... the ,"Love , Love , Love", comment, we've been experiencing this in our reviews..... maybe we should change our name to, " Love"......pretty chique....... LOL. We know there are many Hotels to choose from here in Playa Del Carmen so thank you for choosing Hotel Cielo. We look forward to seeing you on your return trip to the sunny Riviera Maya, and Please........its not the stairs, its the 3 or 4 Margaritas, I think you are loosing count. LOL.

“Convenient friendly and comfortable”
Just stumbled upon El Cielo in Playa and could not have found better. The beds and pillows were the best we experienced while touring the Riviera and the hotel is only a rock's through away. The staff was very friendly and the room well priced. We got more then our money's
worth. We will return.
Room Tip: Consider back rooms off the street for quoted evenings

The beds are the best, it is quite hard to find a good quality mattress here, and especially 30 of the same kind. I slept in one of the rooms & now I must buy one for my own apt. ...I cant wait. “Nice Stay, comfortable beds”

Stayed here just recently for 7 days. The location is excellent right on 4th and 5th perfect walking distance to some of the better sections of the beach. Met the owner, Steve, who is taking a personal hand in the overall operation of the hotel and it shows!! The staff were amazingly polite and helpful. The beds are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in while in Playa Del Carmen, where at these smaller hotels it is common to find beds as hard as stone.
The room was very clean, while the view wasn't the greatest, who cares!! The rooms were very quite as we were on the back side. And although it might not sound like a big deal, there are water jug stations at 2 locations allowing you to refill your water bottles with fresh water, which saves you the MAJOR HASSLE of making sure you always have water on hand.
I will visit again.

Thanks Dustin H for your review. We really appreciate the kind words, especially the staff, we couldn't do it without them. Ahhhh.....the water coolers are a nice touch, we know you guys get thirsty at night & thanks for the comment about the beds, as I mentioned before, it took some time & research to find a real quality mattress & it is becoming a big Plus. I know I have been promising TVs again its hard to buy in quantity, but hey are finally on there way .Well, we know there are many options here in Playa Del Carmen, so thank you for choosing Hotel Cielo & we look forward to seeing you when you return to the beautiful Mayan Riviera.
