“Consider this hotel if you have a car”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I am here on business, so location wasn't important. However, considering it is a 1.5 km walk or a MXN 70-80 taxi ride each time into town AND the fact this hotel has no restaurant or bar, I made a mistake. Otherwise it was fine considering my previous hotel experiences here.

The staff were all nice. There is a lovely, small pool. Parking appears to be free. Still, a cab ride is about the same as parking in town. The rooms are nice with minimal wear. The bed was comfy. WIFI is free but didn't work well in my room. There is a better version in the lobby so I spent a lot of time there.

Breakfast was nice. Fruits, cereals, scrambled eggs, salsa verde, steamed nachos with queso fresca, sweet I reads, yoghurt.

There is a moldy smell to the room, but I didn't find mold. It seems typical for the area. I suspect it is due to the fact the window doesn't open and they turn the air off when not in the room so it is generally moist and stale - ideal for mold. That being said I have not yet been in a hotel here that doesn't have the same issue.

I would stay here again depending on where I need to be.

“Excellent hotel for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This was one of the most affordable hotels in the Mayan Riviera I was able to find online, which had a parking lot. I stayed here for one night only on 1/26/12. I highly recommend this hotel if you are driving and/or you will spend most of your time visiting nearby attractions (such as Xcaret, Coba, Tulum, etc).

The hotel is clean, with really good service and delicious breakfast included. Wi-Fi is fast enough. The pool is small but nice, although it could have been much larger, given the outdoors space. Parking is free.

Only downside is that it's right next to the highway, far away from nice beaches and at least a good 10-minute walk away from downtown. They offer shuttles to downtown Playa del Carmen, and feature free access to Coco Maya beach club; unfortunately the beach is not that nice in front of the club. I would recommend to ask the driver to take you to Playa Mamitas; there are two beach clubs there, and also a good strip of beautiful public beach if you don't need an umbrella or other services. Beach Towels are provided at the front desk.

Would definitely stay here again.

“clean, simple, easy to access, good price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This Holiday Inn Express pretty much delivers exactly what is intended by the brand. It's easy access just off the highway coming through Playa del Carmen. You are a 5 minute walk from a very large Wall Mart style store (Chedraui) if you want to stock up on consumables. It's a long trip to the beach though, so this may be bad for you. For me it was OK since I had a car and was in town to scuba dive rather than visit the beach.

Rooms are simple, clean, quiet. The pool area is actually pretty nice and overall it's a great value stay. Not a fancy five star resort so expectations need to be set right, but what you are looking for with this brand is hit on exactly.

Check in and out were quick, WiFi worked excellently and was complimentary. Beds comfortable and I slept well.

I had zero issues with the hotel, and got exactly what I expected at this price point, so 5/5 for the Holiday Inn Express.

“Clean, quick service, and affordable.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Very clean. Nice showers with hot water. Purified water and ice available. Breakfast buffet was small but delicious. Service was perfect. The only cons we experienced here were that sound traveled through walls and curtains were not great at blcoking sunlight. Overall good experience I would definitely go back here!

“Very nice hotel located in a quiet area of PDC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I've stayed here at this hotel on 4 different occasions and I've never had any complaints at all. The rooms are large, clean, nicely decorated and very quiet as well. The buffet-style breakfast they offer is very good too. I always enjoy the short walk from the hotel into town as it is safe and refreshing to do so. The price of the rooms are very reasonable as well.
