“Possibly the most over-priced hotel in Mexico..”

We stayed here in a junior suite at $340 a night, room 101 to be exact.

I had expected a junior suite to have a view. No. Chairs inside the room. No. Some kind of airflow, lighting. No. Also the fridge didn't work and wasn't replaced for 4 days.

But these aren't my biggest gripes.

You don't have to stay here to use the (excellent) Mosquito Beach facilities. They have deals with the other hotels in the area ($100-$150 a night hotels, presumably so their kitchen is always busy, which it seemed to be). So anyone can come and lie down in pole position wherever they want and still enjoy saving $200+ a night. (And let's face it, how long are you in the room for anyway?)

The food on the beach is quite good, service only OK. And they stand over your shoulder while you write in how much tip you're leaving. It's all a bit... carnivorous.

I'm pretty sure we got the dud room, 101, but either way, you'd do better staying a block back from the beach at a hotel with a facilities deal.

I was really disappointed.

Room Tip: Not sure about the rest, but 101 should be converted to a giant fridge to keep the (often warm beach...

Dear Samboo73 -

I wanted to respond to your review of Mosquito Beach Hotel and try to address some of the problems you experienced during your stay with us. You stayed in a junior suite with a view of our gardens. Some junior suites do have a partial view of the ocean, and others open out to the garden. These are subject to availability. Inside our rooms, we do offer a very modern central air condition system and our lighting is intentionally low - we intend to create a refuge in our guest rooms from the heat and bright sun of the beach outside. It seems the problem with the refrigerator took time to repair and because our rooms were full, we could not immediately replace your refrigerator.

Thank you for the comments about our facilities and kitchen. We want you to know that we are listening to your criticisms and compliments and always striving to give the best experience we can to our guests.

“Beautiful hotel, variable service”

This hotel should be ranked higher on tripadvisor.
The location is great. We spent ages at the beach club. The beach staff are excellent, very friendly and efficient. The beach is beautiful, there are loads of comfy beach beds (so much better than sun loungers!) and the sea is a nice temperature for swimming.
We also swam in the pool a couple of times which was always quiet and made a nice change from the beach.
I thought the room decor was beautiful. It wasn't huge but plenty big enough and really comfortable. It is dark, but i liked that. It was nice to come back to a dark, cool room after the heat and light of outside.
There are a couple of minor improvements they could make in the rooms. There was no full length mirror, I think this is the only hotel I have ever stayed in that didn't have one!! Also, the water pressure in the shower was a bit weak and the cosmetics they provide were a bit limited, and they didn't have slippers. All minor points...buy still things I would expect to find in hotels in this price range.
The biggest problem was some of the front desk staff. While they were all friendly enough they just didn't sort stuff out and didn't seem to care too much about helping their guests. The exception to this was one guy called Luis Angel who was really, really helpful.
Overall I really enjoyed staying here. If they can sort out these few problems with the staff and rooms it would be an excellent hotel.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Mosquito Beach is located on the beach in Playa. Just a few steps from 5th Ave. This is a lovey Boutique Hotel with stylish clean rooms. I wouldnt stay anywhere else besides their sister Hotel Mosquito Blue location on 5th. The only negative to Mosquito Blue is it can be loud at night into the early morning hours being on 5th.

“Very Nice!”

Our first trip to Mexico and the Hotel was a recommendation from a friend.
Reading all the reviews before the trip, I have to say, it depends what you expect.
We were looking for a week of pure beach relaxation and a nice ambience.
The Hotel is directly at the Beach and has very nice beach neds .. as it is an "Adults only" facility, it is very quite. The Food is top quality and the location next to 5th Avenue is perfect.
We had a Suite which was with a nice Ocean View, but the other rooms looked pretty small - but hey, what do you want in a room if you're in Mexico anyway!
If you look for a vacation in Style with a great location and good food - this is your place!

Room Tip: Spend the additional 30 bucks for a Suite ...

“Couldn't have asked for anything better at reasonable price”

First of all, the hostess is practically a supermodel. Secondly they have free breakfast on the ocean every morning. This isn't terrible hotel breakfast, its delicious and they'll pretty much make anything you want. Room was plenty nice, everything worked well, no complaints and all the staff was friendly. It was the best hotel we stayed at and they cheapest too. I read that things things don't go as smoothly during the busy season but we had the best experience we could ask for.
