“So loud I checked out after 1 night”

We had booked this hotel for the holidays and had to leave after the first night after the music shook our windows until 5am. Worst night I have ever spent in a hotel, did not sleep one minute. Still fighting with Expedia to get the $473 back I was charged even though I was told by hotel we would not be charged for room. Nice location and staff, just would never stay there during holidays unless you are only planning on sleeping during the day.

“Amazing Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

First I have to give it up to the staff, all of the staff at Tropical Casablanca are super friendly and knowledgeable, everyday they gave us undivided attention, tips and great recommendations for food and shops. I especially want to thank Emilia and Daniella every day they gave us excellent advice in English and Spanish. The staff there goes above and beyond in providing the best information. Also the natural Cenote (Estuary) that the hotel is built around is beautiful and filled with wildlife. It is in a perfect part of town, for night life, touristy down-town, the beach, I found it closer to the beach than the resorts we had travelled to. They organized and guided us to excursions at a great rate. I have nothing but praise for the hotel. It also includes a bar and Diving Center where you can become certified in the hotel pool and go out for dives in the ocean.

“It was a wonderful stay even with the noise.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

The staff is absolutely amazing! And the owner Nicola is so wonderful. You can't help but fall in love with them, they're all just great! And the location couldn't be better...one block from the beach and one block from 5th Avenue (which if you've never been is exactly where you want to be...tons of restaurants and shopping to be done)! The unfortunate thing about this hotel though is that over the past couple of years, a few dance clubs opened up right next to the place. From what I hear, the local government can regulate the noise level during non-peak/holiday times. I was there for New Year's Eve so they couldn't really do anything about it. So if you're a light sleeper, you might want to consider another place. But if you plan on having a couple drinks before you hit the sack and have some earplugs, you will be fine. And like I said, I'd recommend the place even with the noise. Thanks again Nicola to you and your staff!!

“Lovely hotel, with a great staff, in a perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

Let's get this out of the way: as many other travelers have attested to, it's loud - given that it's basically on top of at least four nightclubs. Our group was made up of city dwellers and suburbians alike, and we all had trouble sleeping. But long days on the beach paired with ear plugs made sleep not too hard to find.

If you can stomach the noise, this is an exceptional hotel! It's just a hop from the beach. The rooms are simple but clean, and the amenities (robes, fridge, etc) are really nice. The grounds are gorgeous, including lovely common areas (pool, sitting area). The owner Nicola and her staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. We had a great experience here.

“Loudest place you can ever imagine sleeping”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

This is the loudest place I have ever stayed. I live in New York City and I can sleep almost anywhere. This is like sleeping in the bathroom of the loudest club you can imagine. I am in my early 30s and was there with a group of friends. We were out late every night and this was still an unbearable level of noise. Do not stay there if you plan to go to sleep before 7am. Also it was overpriced for the quality. The only positive is it was quite clean.

Thank you for your compliment about our staff, the cleaniness of the hotel and their service. What we can not control is the noise during the christmas and new years celebrations which this year were more than any of us could imagine from the neighbouring bars. Please note that when you were surprised at the noise, which did get worse closer to the 31st, we offered you the opportunity to change villas, return your money *charging you for a slight portion of your stay but not the full amount of your three day stay and call it a day. YOu decided to stay and decided that the service, location and extra amenities were what you wanted for your vacation. I think it is important that the general public be aware that as owners we were fair, offered you an exit strategy after you had stayed for three nights and your decision was to stay in the location. I think your complaint about the noise should be directed at the bars who choose to disrespect international noise laws and the municipal government that chooses to support the disrespect that the neighbouring bars have made their objective and business practice. Our option was fair and I think that if you chose not to take it, a review of this nature on this platform is not fair to those of us who work hard to fight the noise in this beach town.
