I stayed alone for a week there, except the fact that staff is great I do not reccomend it. Too expensive, breakfast poor. I forgot to mention great location, close to bus station, beach restaurants and main 5 Avenida.
Last day I found scorpion under my luggage.

I stumbled on this small hotel for a quick one night stay. Booked online and paid with a credit card upon arrival. It was quite a nice surprise to find a place only blocks from the quinta yet very quiet. The hotel has a security guy , Manuel, who remains on duty and a security gate. He had me give him my room key and passport when I left the hotel and he was there to give it back once I returned from my outing. We stayed in a palapa room. Room was adequate, clean, small but big enough. Bathroom was nice with good pressure in the shower. Our hot water was sparse but its warm outside and that did not bother me. I really would consider staying here again. It is very close to the bus terminal, which was my main concern. It is located between 10th and 15th. They are repaving the entire 10th avenue to make it a "green" place for bikes and people so once this is done, this street will become like the Quinta. This will be good for many business because there are many fine businesses that do not get the foot traffic that the Quinta does. I look forward to another visiti to Barrio latino and will tell you to try it also. They tolerated my mal espanol and they have 2 nice dogs. The room rate also included a breaksfast in a nice courtyard.

The staff were great. The hotel itself is built around a nice garden and palapa, which makes it feel like a relaxing oasis off the bussling 5th av. The ambient music playing most of the time really added to this. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel offers free calls to most landlines wold wide which was a nice touch. Overall very enjoyable stay, only detractors were the noise, both at night from neighboring bars/restaurants and then in the morning as breakfast is set up.

We stayed at the Hotel Barrio Latino for 4 days and used it as a base to explore. Great value, clean rooms and very friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends!

This is in no way a negative comment but our only comment would be that you need to leave one ID (drivers license) during your entire stay and also your room key each time you leave. We are used to taking our key with us but it is really safe and there is someone always at the front desk. Also, be sure to bring toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and soap).

We took the ADO bus from Cancun Airport ($10 pp each way). When you get off the bus exit to Ave 5 then turn left and walk down to 4th. The hotel is a block and a half away from the beach, Ave 5 shopping/dining, and two blocks from the Cozumel ferry.

If you are going to Xelha, you can also take the ADO bus and it will drop you off right in front. The first bus leaves at 8:30 am and you get there around 9:15 am. There are two buses back to Playa - one at 5:40 and one at 5:55 pm. It is about $9 USD round trip with ADO. It is way cheaper than a taxi and my husband didn't really want the hassle of finding a collectivo.

I would also recommend booking your Chichen Itza tour with the front desk. They offer a great rate plus the day trip is with a small group (less than 12).
