Three friends and I stayed 1 night at Costa del Mar in Nov 2007. This is great location, 1 block from 5th Ave. and right on the beach! The hotel is a value during low season rates. Rooms are clean but a bit sparse but that's OK as much time isn't spent in the room anyway. Costa del Mar has a beach bar as part of the property, El Pirata. Great place to sit and chill at the swing bar while sipping a few cervezas. I would recommend Costa del Mar to friends. Enjoy your stay!

If you like to be pampered and stay in resorts and can't speak any Spanish - don't stay here! This hotel is clean, on the beach, good cheap food on the beach, fun beach bar, nice people who don't speak English very well. Right next to Blue Parrot, so this is a party spot...you have your kids with you? You don't like music and noise? DON'T STAY HERE. You want to enjoy the culture, be on the beach, be safe and sound in a nice clean room and have money left over to party and dive - stay here - great place! Comparable to a motel 6 along a highway to nowhere as far as luxury....you may even have a pet lizard in your room when you first arrive - ha! THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE HOTEL FOR THE PRICE - The people who complained about mold, noise, ect...were not prepared for what they paid for. You won't find a better price for a nice clean place on the beach just up the block from 5th avenue. ..this is a very fun location....be nice to the locals and they will be nice to you....you are in Mexico!...why pay to stay in a resort that excludes you from the locals and culture - save some money and meet some fun people. We are staying here in Novevmber too (2007) - NO WORRIES - FUN LITTLE BEACH FRONT PLACE! Oh yah - beds in Mexico are hard as a rock unless you stay at a resort, so learn how to ask for a matress pad in Spanish or bring one in an extra duffle bag!

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in room 23. The smell in the bathroom was awful but I guess we were lucky - our colleagues in room 25 had to deal with even more disgusting moldy smell. The shower was dripping and nothing in the room ever got dry. We were happy that our airconditioning didn't work. We heard from others that it got really cold during the night and there was no way to turn the AC off (at least they couldn't find a switch).

We had breakfast included but nobody at the bar knew anything about it. Our tourguide had to intervene. The ham and cheese omelette was fantastic, though.

As other travelers have noted, the noise is substantial and there are no beach towels available.

Great location and nice exterior but that's about it.

Stay away! Loud Music all night till 4 am. Use to be a cool mellow Reggae Bar...now they are trying to compete with the loud music from the Blue Parrot next door. I stayed at the Hotel Colibri next door and the music was still loud...I had to keep all doors and window shut till 4 am everyday...only then i could finally open them and Listen to the sound of the surf. Buyer Beware!
