“a hidden gem for a great price”

We have been coming to Playa del Carmen for 13 years so we know the area well. It can be very confusing for people looking on line because often places list close to beach when in fact they are in an area south of playa del carmen called playacar, this hotel is a small 1 or 2 mexican blocks away to one of the best beaches in playa centro, Coco beach. This hotel is in the middle of great resturants, the 5th ave. strand with great shopping and fun night life. Riviera del sol offers a really nice breakfast for free and complimentary beach passes, which gives you 2 chairs free, normally about an $8 per day cost. The rooms are nice with modern mexican furnishings, good a/c and a warm atmosphere from the front desk to the nice girls that serve breakfast in the morning. Location is everything there in playa and this place has it!

“Perfect oasis in Playa”

My wife and I booked this boutique hotel on the recommendation of a local friend back in Colorado since their place had no vacancy. The process was simple on-line. We are somewhat of control freaks for our vacations as we get them so rarely so we did a little research. We have done the all-incl thing a few times and our last experience was on Cozumel and wasn't pleasant. We like a peaceful setting but not isolated and are somewhat adventurous - but not when it comes to sleeping! We knew nothing of Playa other than passing through on our way to Cozmel and had a mixed feeling about it but at our friends insistence and description of the 5 th ave district and beach proximity, we took a flyer. Wow are we glad we did. The hotel could not be anymore perfectly located between 5 th and Mamitas beach or about 2 min to either. Despite all the construction going on across the street which stops between 5 pm and 9 am, it is a peaceful little oasis. The staff are friendly, local, and very welcoming. The hotel itself has about 18 rooms and all have a small fridge and sink. The suites have full kitchens I am told. There is made to order breakfast each morning that they charge a modest amount for but the daily pass to Mamitas Beaach Club more than makes up for this. As well, they offer 1/2 price passes to The Gym, a new, fully equipped health club 5 min away which I used a lot while there (it rained quite a bit!). Our room was right above the little eating/bar area and we seldom heard anything. It is 1/2 a block to 5th st pedestrian district with the most amazing coffee (Au Cocao) within stumbling distance. This is a very international district and the guests spoke many languages. The central courtyard and pool is for relaxing around, not really swimming. The established tropical foliage just adds to the charm. If you are looking for a place to put your feet up amidst a very happening international scene, this is perfect. It is not Lap of Luxury but for the price, it can't be beat. We will definitely return. Bring your own pillow if you are a finicky sleeper like me!

Room Tip: Get a room away from the street to the north. Construction across the street starts 830-9 am

Great location, great people, great time. Just spent another week here. 300 meters to the beach, complete with towels and umbrellas. Restaurants just around the corner.

“Friendly staff and great location for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I recently stayed at the Riviera del Sol to attend a nearby wedding. The location was perfect and just off the beach. The restaurant overlooking the pool made for a pleasant breakfast experience every morning. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. The hotel doesn't have a lot of frills but was a great value and very nice and clean. The only negative was that the room was a little musty when we arrived but there are doors opening to the pool and a powerful overhead fan so that was gone in no time.

“Great location and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We stayed here during the BPM festival and loved the location to both Ave. Quinta and the two best beach clubs Mamitas and Kool. There is easy parking if you rent a car and taxis are always within a block if don't. We were on the first floor where you can see Cozumel and the beach at the end of the hall from outside the room to your door. I'll echo that it can be noisy on this floor during times like the BPM Festival or New Years Eve. But it wouldn't be a problem during regular days, even during the BPM festival it quieted down by 11pm. We anticipated this, so it was no problem. The staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. I'm an Ah Cacao junkie so I loved being so close to the best coffee drinks.

Room Tip: The first floor hall with rooms 103 to 106? is open on the end to give an nice view of the ocean. Ho...
