The rooms were clean and the housekeeping made us beautiful towel swans each day. The front desk staff were friendly and we were close to the center of town with easy access to many restaurants and attractions.

However, the bar/restaurant downstairs that is attached to the hotel plays very loud music until late each night, which even the sound of your air conditioner will not completely drown out if you are on the second floor. Also, it seems the hotel could take some fairly easy and inexpensive steps to greatly improve security. For example, our room had a security bar on the door but our room key didn't work on it. When we asked for the key, the staff told us that "another guest had lost it and they didn't have another one." Likewise, the "security box" in our room had no key or even keyhole, so we couldn't use it. It also appeared that someone could slide open the windows to our room in the hallway without much difficulty and get into the room. However, we had no problems with break-ins while we were there.

The view we had was of a brick wall, but the higher-floor rooms may be better. The windows were frosted so the lack of view didn't really affect the aesthetic quality of the room, which looked tranquil and pretty. There was a TV and air conditioner in the room and a nice window-seat area for reading. The shower was spacious and there was always plenty of hot water. For $55 a night, it was a farily good value, but we probably wouldn't stay there again due to the noise issues and lack of security.

I stayed at the Cohiba for my 35th birthday......and had a great time.

The breakfast was fruit & pastries at the hotel next door, it really wasn't worth my time.......but most "continental" breakfasts aren't! We had a fridge in our room, and the air conditioning worked great! Our balcony rocked!!! on our final night there, they upgraded us to room #20 (or was it 21) the "top" floor suite! It had an amazing patio, with views of Cozumel, a kitchen, a huge palapa roof, a huge bathroom with a bidet, a hammock...........it was amazing!!

The location was perfect! I would definately stay here again!!

after running thru all of the town looking for a hotel that we (mother, sister, and boyfriend) could all be happy with, we accidently stumbled into hotel cohiba. thank god. i was more than pleased with the location. the decor was very simple and tasteful. the staff was very friendly and eager to accomodate with any thing you might need. of course there were little things that could have been better. but no where is going to be perfect. the other treat of the place is the restautant (kartabar) in the lobby. amazing food and delicious wine. a very stylish yet comfortable environment. i will definetly return to playa del carmen and when i do i will stay at hotel cohiba.

Based on website information, we were under the impression that our room would have a fridge and that a continental breakfast was provided.
The fridge was in the main hall of the building, and there was no breakfast. In addition, our air conditioner didn't work, the 'ocean view' was of a sliver of horizon, there was a window to the hallway with a curtain so thin you could see through it into our room, and the door fit so poorly that it looked very easy to break into even when locked. We were on our honeymoon, and unwilling to sacrifice comfort and security for cost savings. I would recommend it only to someone staying one or two nights, who was on a budget. It was only sufficient, and in my opinion does not rate its three stars (though I didn't see the 1 and 2 star hotels to compare!). They were pleasant when we checked out and we left satisfied with the arrangement.
