This is the third vacation that my wife and I have spent at the Real Playa Del Carmen. We seem to enjoy it more and more every time that we go there. It is a small three star resort with service that exceeds any service that I have found at any five star resorts. We befriended a Doctor and his wife that were staying at the Royal which is a 5 diamond resort a 10 minute walk away. When we compared the service at both resorts, we came to the conclusion that the service was better at the Real Playa Del Carmen.
Under the supervision of Bersain, the dayshift staff consisted of Sonja, Marbella, Heydi, Maria and Freddie who were all a delight to deal with. The afternoon shift under the supervision Raul had Eberito, Mateo, Michel along with others taking care of your every need. There is also Christian at the front lobby bar during the day and the very hardworking Cesar in the evenings.
If you are a person who likes to meet new people from around the world, then the Real Playa Del Carmen is the place to be. It is a resort in the heart of Playa Del Carmen that due to its small intimate nature, you can’t help but meet new people. This time we met some very nice people from Sweden as well as Finland and Norway. Western Canada also had some people staying there that were a real hoot. I also ran into people like ourselves that have been there before and predictably enough, for the same reasons we are repeat customers. My wife had a conversation with an older couple that have vacationed in Cancun in the past. They had found Cancun to be a place although nice was one of either beach or cement with very little greenery or vegetation. They changed to Playa Del Carmen where more vegetation is evident. Specifically at the Real Playa Del Carmen, the resort buildings surround a beautiful garden type atmosphere well taken care by the head groundskeeper Francisco, an honest lovable man that takes pride in his work.
The animation team was the resorts entertainment and were a driving force for bringing many people together socially. The team consisted of four members. The spokesman Danijel from Croatia, Alejandro from Mexico City, the beautiful Raquel also from Mexico City and their gorgeous choreographer Vyaney from Vera Cruz Mexico. The shows they provided in the evenings were very interactive with the audience and everyone always has a good time. I found their international show to be very good and they were also putting the finishing touches on a new show called “yesterday” which was also quite enjoyable. During the afternoons you often see them busily practicing for the evenings shows. Don’t be surprised if they come and ask if they can sit down and have lunch with you as they do this with guests every day. It is always interesting conversation and it made my wife and I feel more welcome then we already did.
There is a lot of Mexico that I still want to see but it may have to wait a while because I want to go back to the Real Playa Del Carmen again. It is in a nice central location for doing a lot of things where you would normally need arranged transportation if you were in a resort outside of the town. For instance it is walking distance to Coco Bongo and to the ferry dock to go to Cozumel.
A word regarding the house tequila that is offered at the Real Playa Del Carmen, It is called “Monte Azul” and I found it to be one of the best sipping tequilas I have had. It has just a hint of Vanilla in it. I have sampled many of the Mexican tequilas from Don Julio, Tres Mujeres, Corralejo, 1800, etc. which are all good but rather expensive tequilas. This one took me by surprise. Be aware that it is hard to find for purchase, I was told it was only available in Cancun.
Set pretension aside, try the Real playa Del Carmen, meet new people, enjoy the animation team. By the end of our vacation we both felt as though we part of a bigger family.
