We stayed here for 3 nights in February 2012 on the recommendation of my husband's cousin who had stayed here before. It's a nice small hotel with a terrific location for enjoying the beach, Cozmel and the thriving commerical/resturant/shopping area. The rooms are clean and servicable, with bottled water included. There was plenty of hot water and the A/C worked very well. Our room had a window towards the street (we were on the 3rd floor), that was double-paned so no street noise came through. Our room had an open floor plan with a bath alcove. I would inquire about the layout of the larger rooms if planning on bringing children. The common areas are kept tidy and are attractive to sit or sun yourself. They had a pool for children and adults.
I would not go for an all-inclusive package here because there are so many excellent resturants in the commercial area. The included breakfast -coffee, juice, bread/roll- was quite basic. The coffee was stellar, does anything much else matter? We needed a bigger breakfast so we could have a late lunch after snorkling so we also ordered eggs/fruit off the menu. They were moderately priced with portions to suit an American (another day we split a breakfast burrito) and quite good.
We had dinner one night at the Cafe, seafood paella, which was what we expected. The menu has a good variety of items typical of the area, but as I said, many other resturants are really excellent so the small cafe has a lot of competition. For breakfast or a snack it's tops.
All in all I would recommend this for those who do not want an isolated resort experience. The location in the town is key to it being an interesting place to stay. I felt for the money it was an excellent value and a good location for beach, shopping, snorkling and site seeing.
