“Another great vacation at the GPR!”

Our family vacationed at the Gran Porto Real from Jan 28th – Feb 4th 2012.

This was our 4th stay at this resort. This hotel holds a special place in our hearts, having been married here in 2005.

We’ve returned to this resort for many reasons, but mostly because of the wonderful staff, great food, amenities and excellent hospitality.

We find the staff at the resort is always very helpful and we’ve become close with several of them over the years.

Concierge: We have gotten to know Astrid very well over the years and consider her a friend. She is a true professional when it comes to attending to people’s needs.

Albatros Buffet: There was always a wide range of food for breakfast, lunch or supper, either already prepared or prepared for you. Florencio and Rodrigo are amazing as well as many other waiters.

Maria’s Mexican Restaurant: Featured a different menu every night with foods from different Mexican regions. Our friend and waiter Mario is absolutely awesome. Ask for him the next time you go. The entire staff is excellent as well, including Diego, Edgar, Mariano, Sergio, Rigo and Alberto (bartender). Chef Edi always made our meals to perfection.

IlPescatore Italian Restaurant: The staff here is fantastic as well. A special mention goes to Ton (a fluently tri-lingual waiter) and Elias. We also want to mention the chef Ehrique Salgado; he too made our meals to perfection.

Beach waiters: We had the pleasure of meeting Jose, Pablo and Mari and they were always happy to bring us drinks from time to time. They walk back and forth from the beach to the beach bar and they work very hard. Please remember to tip the beach waiters if you can.

Room cleaners: The rooms were cleaned daily. Sometimes they’d leave us towels shaped as a swan with flower petals scattered about. It was a nice touch and we’d leave them something from Canada that they couldn’t necessarily get there.

“WOW What A Place”

This was the first time staying at this hotel. With it being right in Playa You had the best of everything Beautiful Beaches, only steps to 5th avenue and the Ferry to cozmel. This resort in my opinion is a five star. the food and the restaurants were to die for. THe Restaurant LL Pescatore is an excellent place to eat. Chef Enrique, make and Mean Meal and with Jorge and Jonny serving you, you will feel as you are their only table. The service at the bars, around the pool and beach was great always someone to ask if you needed anything. Pablo was a saint. We thought about staying at the Royal next door and boy am I glad we stayed at the Gran Porto. It would have been a waste of money.
I can go on and on but i will not forget about the activities. The dancers at night were great and during the day Chicken, Cesar and Ivan were always getting the place going. Lots of variety. Take advantage of everything. Aquafit, Bike Tours, Kayaking, Chess, drink instructions, Salsa lessons and much more.
THe one problem was Bestday transport. We checked in in the early morning we were leaving they gave us a time to be in the lobby. We got their 5 min early. Well the van had come 1/2hr before and left without us.Good thing we had cash in our pocket because it cost us $100 to take a taxi to the airport. I when i have traveled before gone home with not much cash in pocket, if that was the case that day we would have been screwed.
A Tour recommendation for tours is : Maya Can Eco Tours Just a Big WOW, our own tour with eric as our driver. We went were we wanted go and left when we were done. No waiting like with other tours where you on a bus with a large group of people. Barry is the guy to talk to tell him where you want to go and he will get you there.

“One of the best!”

I was there for a destination wedding. Was a little apprehensive about being at one place for a week. My family has been cruisers since I was young. This was one of the best trips of my life! You never run out of things to do and places to go. The food is to die for and the resort is top notch. I had the most fun getting to know the friendly and helpful staff. Jose Be and Hector in the Lobby bar were two of my favorite! Everyone was there to help and make sure that you have everything you could want or need. If you want a worry free vacation then I would highly recommend making the Gran Porto Real your destination.

Room Tip: If you get the nicer ocean front room you have the beige bands and you can eat at more resteraunts...

“Great Family Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Gran Porto Real. It was a wonderful time! I was very skeptical at first. I wasn't sure the GPR's location in the heart of Playa was for me. I was wrong. Having instant access to 5th Avenue, its shops, bars and restaurants provided the best of both worlds. While the GPR is smaller than recent resorts we've visited, it offered everything we were looking for... nice pool... beach... good Kids Club, etc. But what really made our trip was the staff. Ivan, Cesar and the rest of the activities team warmly engaged our group (5 kids, 10 adults) and had us playing volleyball, doing water aerobics and taking dance lessons in no time! Jose, Miguel and the rest of the servers were quick with refreshments and took great care of us. The front desk staff were very welcoming... special kudos to Enrique. The staff as a whole made this a great little vacation!

The food service in general was excellent. And, while the quality of the food wasn't always the best, the service was impeccable. We especially enjoyed their Italian restaurant, Pescatore's, where Mateo, Tony and staff were extremely accomodating. Again, I was very skeptical about Italian cuisine in this setting, but the chefs at Pescatore's nailed it - we dined there 2 nights in a row! The other surprise was the GPR's 24 hour, self-serve area, where snacks and drinks were abundant and super convenient!

Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised! The GPR offers a rare blend of a beach resort located in a wonderful seaside town, offering a truly authentic Mexican experience!

“Phenomenal! Resort, staff, location, nightlife, relaxation were all amazing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Having, visited several up-scale resorts, Gran Porto was by far the best I have ever been to. It seemed to have something for everyone, whether you're looking for a great nightlife or relaxation.

What really made the trip for me were the amazing staff! Just to name a few: Chicken, Armando, Cesar, Karina, Alejandro, and Edwardo. They did such a great job getting people involved in activities around the resort and bringing everyone together.

Cesar and Karina did a fabulous job with the exercise classes and were so welcoming. Armando was so warm and really brought a joy to the resort. Chicken and Alejandro were great entertainers. Edwardo brought a smile to my face every time a picked up a towel in the morning or dropped one off in the afternoon.

Upon going to this resort, I didn't expect that I'd feel such a sense of community and meet friends from around the world. The activities at the pool were for all ages too, not just kids. Pool volleyball or salsa lessons were a great way to break up the day of relaxing and tanning.

Even if you're not looking for a communal feel, this resort is also perfect I think for those who just want to relax on their own. The beach is beautiful.

The rooms were very impressive, even the hallways with their open-air style were impressive.

The food was good. There is a Mexican restaurant, Italian, and a buffet open during the day. As a vegetarian, I didn't have any problems. The Italian restaurant I found was extremely good.

Lastly, I think it's important to note that the resort is in a superb location. You have the all-inclusiveness and entertainment of the resort, but you can literally walk out the resort into a very safe, attractive shopping, dining, and bar district.
