“One of the best!”

I was there for a destination wedding. Was a little apprehensive about being at one place for a week. My family has been cruisers since I was young. This was one of the best trips of my life! You never run out of things to do and places to go. The food is to die for and the resort is top notch. I had the most fun getting to know the friendly and helpful staff. Jose Be and Hector in the Lobby bar were two of my favorite! Everyone was there to help and make sure that you have everything you could want or need. If you want a worry free vacation then I would highly recommend making the Gran Porto Real your destination.

Room Tip: If you get the nicer ocean front room you have the beige bands and you can eat at more resteraunts...

“Great Family Getaway”

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Gran Porto Real. It was a wonderful time! I was very skeptical at first. I wasn't sure the GPR's location in the heart of Playa was for me. I was wrong. Having instant access to 5th Avenue, its shops, bars and restaurants provided the best of both worlds. While the GPR is smaller than recent resorts we've visited, it offered everything we were looking for... nice pool... beach... good Kids Club, etc. But what really made our trip was the staff. Ivan, Cesar and the rest of the activities team warmly engaged our group (5 kids, 10 adults) and had us playing volleyball, doing water aerobics and taking dance lessons in no time! Jose, Miguel and the rest of the servers were quick with refreshments and took great care of us. The front desk staff were very welcoming... special kudos to Enrique. The staff as a whole made this a great little vacation!

The food service in general was excellent. And, while the quality of the food wasn't always the best, the service was impeccable. We especially enjoyed their Italian restaurant, Pescatore's, where Mateo, Tony and staff were extremely accomodating. Again, I was very skeptical about Italian cuisine in this setting, but the chefs at Pescatore's nailed it - we dined there 2 nights in a row! The other surprise was the GPR's 24 hour, self-serve area, where snacks and drinks were abundant and super convenient!

Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised! The GPR offers a rare blend of a beach resort located in a wonderful seaside town, offering a truly authentic Mexican experience!

“Phenomenal! Resort, staff, location, nightlife, relaxation were all amazing.”

Having, visited several up-scale resorts, Gran Porto was by far the best I have ever been to. It seemed to have something for everyone, whether you're looking for a great nightlife or relaxation.

What really made the trip for me were the amazing staff! Just to name a few: Chicken, Armando, Cesar, Karina, Alejandro, and Edwardo. They did such a great job getting people involved in activities around the resort and bringing everyone together.

Cesar and Karina did a fabulous job with the exercise classes and were so welcoming. Armando was so warm and really brought a joy to the resort. Chicken and Alejandro were great entertainers. Edwardo brought a smile to my face every time a picked up a towel in the morning or dropped one off in the afternoon.

Upon going to this resort, I didn't expect that I'd feel such a sense of community and meet friends from around the world. The activities at the pool were for all ages too, not just kids. Pool volleyball or salsa lessons were a great way to break up the day of relaxing and tanning.

Even if you're not looking for a communal feel, this resort is also perfect I think for those who just want to relax on their own. The beach is beautiful.

The rooms were very impressive, even the hallways with their open-air style were impressive.

The food was good. There is a Mexican restaurant, Italian, and a buffet open during the day. As a vegetarian, I didn't have any problems. The Italian restaurant I found was extremely good.

Lastly, I think it's important to note that the resort is in a superb location. You have the all-inclusiveness and entertainment of the resort, but you can literally walk out the resort into a very safe, attractive shopping, dining, and bar district.

“Gluten Free Friendly!”

I am worried about spending a week in Mexico and being Gluten Free, but the hotel restaurant staff was AMAZING at working with me for my allergies. For breakfast I had omelets, and for lunch and dinner every meal was made for me at my request. I could pick through the buffet line, but even better was that I was able to place a custom order that they made for me immediately I always felt safe and cared for in their hands. Antonio, Ana Elisa, Juliana, Moreno, Lorenzo, Carlos were all so helpful in taking my orders and making sure that everything was correct. They purchased gluten free desserts for me and had them available for me upon request at every meal. Mauricio is the manager that oversaw everything, but Tony was captain that helped me daily. There are 3 restaurants at the hotel, I was most comfortable with the main restaurant at the hotel, but did visit the Mexican and Italian restaurants each once. Many thanks to my friends at the Gran Porto Real. They did indeed become friends. I had my own place in their refrigerator for my desserts and I made sure to enjoy them before leaving. If you're GF, rest assured that they will take care of you. Just identify yourself to Mauricio or Tony and sit back and enjoy your time at the hotel. (:

Room Tip: Sound echos, not sure where the best rooms are..but not by the elevators, top of stairs (as ours wer...

“don't use credit card at the resort for anything”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This was the third time we have stayed at this resort. Our first trip experience was great so we wanted to go back. Our experience the second time was just OK but they had overbooked it and had to ship us off to another not so nice hotel for the first night. This time we decided to pay for a room upgrade when we checked in so I used my visa to pay for this. After arriving home I discovered after reviewing my credit card online that they put an extra charge on my card for $600 U.S. dollars and that was over and beyond what I paid for the room upgrade. No luck trying to communicate with the resort about resolving the issue but Visa is great about taking care of it for you.
